ok, I had these 10 years ago, it was completely missed on 2 risk assessments and at 25 weeks it has been picked up and I am going to see the consultant this week...

... I am feeling somewhat freaked and have no idea what to expect either from the apptiontment or what this means to this pregnancy and delivery

HELP :wacko::wacko:

anyone? I am really beginnning to freak now.... I thought my main issue would be not dilating properly, but all I have found on the forum is about preterm labour and short cervix... am trying desperately to resist google

Hi :hugs:

I don't have any personal experience of this, but I have a cousin who has...

In her case (she had had around 1/3 to 1/2 of her cervix removed in the days before cone biopsies became less invasive) they put in a shirodkar (sp?) stitch which held the cervix closed during third tri ... and when she was full term they simply cut the stitch and allowed labour to commence naturally. She had a spontanious vaginal delivery in a normal time frame and without complications.

The colcoscopies shouldn't make any difference at all - they are pretty non invasive :hugs::hugs:

thanks Tattiesmum, that is what I needed to hear :flower:

I ended up on the phone to the MW in the end and then had to leave the house for an hour or so so that I could calm down... I guess I will know more on Wednesday, and am guessing that they will want to check my cervix... I hate waiting...

Exactly ... they will just want to check your cervix to make sure that everything is fine and to see if they want to pop a stitch in or not :hugs:

I'm not good at waiting either lol

Will check you for risk of incompetent cervix...check other thread on here...
I had this, didn't have the stitch in the end, cervix was 2 cm open, had scans each month, limit standing, walking for long lengths of time, bed rest from 19 weeks, my baby girl arrived only 9 days early :) x
I know it's easy to say, try not to worry-but I worried constantly and everything was ok.

...bed rest from 19 weeks, ....

I could really gun for my first MW, this is partly why I am now freaked, I am 25 weeks and a nurse, I stand for long periods as part of my job!!!

Thanks Lou, am glad all is ok, and again what I needed to hear :flower:

Hello hun, I too had a cone biopsy and wasn't checked until later on in pregnancy. I mentioned it to my Midwife and Consultant who basically dismissed it until I asked again and pressed to be seen regarding this. In my case I had to have cervical length scans every two weeks to check my cervix wasn't shortening or opening. Basically my results fluctuated, one time it was long and closed another time it had shortened and then I went back and it was long again! Now you are in the system they will keep a close eye on you and if it's looking like your cervix is incompetent they can put a stitch in your cervix. I'm expecting twins and really thought that with the extra weight I would need a stitch, but that hasn't been the case at all.

I know it's VERY scary to begin with but at least now the hospital are aware and will keep a close eye on you.

Like Lou78 said, try not to stand or walk around for too long as this causes pressure on your cervix and rest as much as possible, keeping your feet up.

If you have any questions you know where I am :hugs:

I had a colposcopy and loop diathermy for CIN 3 two months before I got pregnant with my DS. I had no idea it had the potential to cause any problems at all and despite me mentioning to the MW nobody said anything about it at all.

I ended up going into labour at 35+6 and it was very weird because I actually felt him kick and then something popped and my waters broke. He is 5 now and absolutely fine but am currently pregnant again (very early days only 4+5) and am definitely going to make sure they take me seriously this time because there were absolutely no indications that he was going to come early so I just think my cervix couldn't take anymore.

Hope you get on ok with mw x

hi, i had loop treatment 3 months before getting pregnant last year for CIN 3. i mentioned it to the midwife and i was sent to hospital but they didnt check internally, they just said that i hadnt had enough cervix removed for it to be a problem. i had a colposcopy in march and have been given the all clear re the cells. i know there is a risk that baby could come early because of the treatment but he is holding on for now and there are sooo many people that have had the same treatment and gone on to have absolutely trouble free pregnancies without the stitch. good luck, you will be fine xxxxxxx

I had a cone biopsy and delivered at 34 weeks with my daughter. However no one has made the link between a prem birth and previous surgery in my case and I know plenty of people who have gone on to have term babies after treatment.

I had asked for my cervix to be measured during this pregnancy and the results have been pretty inconclusive. I am just grateful when another week goes by and the baby is still inside TBH! It's great the hospital are monitoring you.

The incompetent cervix thread on this forum should help to put your mind at rest xx

thank you for all your replies...

I saw the Dr today. Basically, I cannot remember after they explained they difference between the cone biopsy and normal biopsy which one I had (may sound starnge, but I was 18 and very scared when this was going on), she had a good look as she thought that I would have had a normal biopsy, but she ended up not being sure as there was more scar tissue than she thought there should be, and went to discuss it with the consultant, she was ages)... however at being almost 3rd tri they would have stopped monitoring me (usually be 22 but certainly 24) though scans and they would not place a stitch now either. With regard to delivery, I can still plan for a home birth or use the home from home suite and she has sent me back to the community MW for the rest of my antenatal care... no further instruction from that... :dohh: so watch this space I guess, I do feel a bit better as I feel that if I was really high risk they would have at least kept me under the hospital for my antenatal care, or advised me to finish work

Glad you sound more reassured now, Im sure everything will be fine. I had a punch biopsy, colposcopy and LLETZ surgery 10 months prior to this pregnancy. I have mentionned it a few times to midwives, and nobody has investigated further or even indicated that it could be a problem. And here I am 39 weeks plus 2 (ignore dodgy ticker), now waiting for labour to begin. Im just hoping there'll be no problems with dilation. Good luck and HTH xx
