Price of Formula?

I was having a look about and most supermarkets and Boots charge the same price for the SMA Gold formula - 1.88 or 1.90 for a litre, and about 52/53p for 250 mls, along with £7.25 for the powder.

Then I had a look in our local Co-Op. One of only 2 shops that are easy to nip to here, in an area where the majority re on LOW incomes, and benefits.
£7.70 for powder, 64p!!!! for 250ml of milk!

It's a Co-op, so not a wee independant store, and every time I am in there are about 4 other shoppers, and they are always running out of stuff so its well used.
It's crap that they charge more in an area where people have less money!!

We used to be on Lactose Free SMA from the docs so got it free up until now, we've changed her milk so she doesnt become lactose intolerant and we pay £7.19 (Asda & Tesco)

Think thats cheaper than most but thats shocking about Co-op!?!?

The co op is a rip off. Cow and Gate is about 10% more in there. I guess the co op is more of a convenience store than a supermarket. Buying formula is nightmare in my area, co op is the closest and they don't stock the large cartons I buy, and the next nearest is Waitrose who charge ridiculous prices. My mum works near an Asda so she buys it for me now.

As formula is so strictly regulated you'd have thought retailers would be made to stick to the same price for it.

I breastfeed but have been using a bottle of follow on when I go out or need to get on with something as I simply don't have time to express anymore.

I've always used Hipp Organic follow on milk as Fossey says...it's at least a pound cheaper than SMA etc and my little un's have always been happy with it

i pay £6.20something i thinkn for hipp organic, but when we used heinz nurture, it was nearer £8! round here there isnt much variation in prices, could be cos i use milk that isnt available in all shops tho!

the local shop across road is a "1man band" and sma in there is £7.89 a tin and £7.72 in the chemist next door. not ideal but will pay it if i run out. thing is shops know this!
