Princess Royal Hospital in Farnborough, Kent?

Hi,

If you have recently given birth at the Princess Royal Hospital in Farnborough, Kent, can you let me know if they give you a list of things to pack in your hospital bag?

Plus any other info you have (nothing scary or negative please ) on what to take/expect would be really handy! Particularly if you have been in the brand new birthing centre rather than the labour ward.

Hi - I had my son there last April. What sort of things did u want to know?
Re what to take, i was never given a list I just did some research & to be honest I didnt use half of the things I took with me.
Must say, I had 2 amazing midwives at the PRUH - I didnt use the birthing pool but I had a very nice delivery room.

Thanks for replying - what kind of things did you take, and what did you end up not using? I've read so many lists and threads that I can't decide what to pack!! Argh!! Hospitals seem to differ with what they will/won't provide (nappies/pillows etc) so I'm not sure what I'd need.

Hiya,
I took comfy Pjs, underwear, dressing gown, few toiletries, hospital notes & Ipod. To be honest i was in labour for 6 hours so most of the things i took i didnt use, the above was what i did use.
For my lo i took nappies, coming home outfit, blanket - car seat for when u leave hospital

hey! i had my little man there last april too, there was a list of hospital stuff in my notes so i just brought along what they suggested eg pjs, slippers, underwear, maternity pads and clothes, nappies and wipes for baby. i was only there for 3 hours before giving birth so didn't have time to use a lot of what i had with me eg magazines/music/food. also they don't provide bottles or formula for babies anymore so if you plan to bottlefeed or have to use formuala they recommend bringing some in yourself. hope this helps

Hi Ladies!

I had my daughter there last May. Went in on Thursday night for induction and she finally arrived on Sunday morning, so was there for a while!

The care before she arrived was great.... I was in a room with 4 beds and had 2 lovely midwives who looked after me until Amelia arrived....

I did find that it was really hot in there - I took a bottle of squash and kept drinking that (someone advised me to take straws, makes it easier to drink, whatever position you're in!)

I also took my own pillow, a hand held fan (though they did get an electric fan for me - bliss!!) Ooh! Change for the ice-cream vending machine! Food for hubby (as they're not given any - don't think there were even supposed to help themselves to tea!)

You have to take your own formula - they don't provide any... (I was planning to breastfeed, but took some ready made bottles - just in case - which was a good thing, as Amelia didn't feed from me whilst we were there - but did as soon as we were home and in the garden...) I was given some one-to-one help with breastfeeding which was helpful, but generally felt that once Amelia had arrived, I was on my own.... Had to go and find someone to help me - felt that there weren't that many nurses around the post natal ward.....

Another thing you'll need if you're planning to park there are vouchers that you can buy in advance (think it's something like £15 for 5 days?? Can't quite remember! (you can buy them from an office on the ground floor near the entrance....)

Can't think of anything else at the moment - if I remember anything else, I'll let you know!

A few baby gros and vests, disposable nappies and a soft towel (hand towel size).

Also, have a chat to your community midwife if you're unsure of what else to bring and what to expect.

Yeah definitely take your shower stuff, tooth brush and paste, deodorant slippers or slipper socks. Drinks cos it is roasting in there, some cool tshirts/shorts or light weight trousers. Plenty of sanitary towels and knickers. breast pads, vaseline, hair brush, change for parking meter (plenty!), pillow, money for the tv system, phone, camera, cd player or ipod etc....

Baby, take baby grows, vests, hat, mitts, nappies, cotton wool AND baby wipes (for you as much as baby too!), nappy bags, changing mat, bum cream.. car seat for discharge, unless oh can bring it when he comes to get you?!

I think that is it apart from if you are planning on formula feeding, you need to bring your own formula and bottles as they dont provide it. If you are brest feeding definitely take some nursing bras/ tops.

I'm going on when I had my dd there 5 years ago but had my DS at home in December. I had to take him there at 4 days old because they didn't have a pediatricain who would come out to me grrrrrr so be prepared to wait for discharge (my friend who had her baby there 4 weeks ago waited from 9am til 3pm to see the ped as they are soo stretched with all the cut backs and closure of QM)

aww jack's 10 days younger than leo sooo much has happened in the last year just seems like blink and you miss it lol. we're just planning a small gathering at our place with some family and a few friends. what have you got planned?
