Hiya I'm only 6 weeks at the most but thought I'd ask if I can refuse the gtt test?
I know I will get bashed for this but let me explain why....with my first the hospital booked the gtt too late and the results were raised by .5 at my following appointments even specialists said I didn't have gd but had to keep me under their care as if they didn't they could get in trouble...so I ended up travelling every week for scans...botched induction nearly 2 weeks early and then a cocked up emcs I had a horrible experience which may not have happened all because of the gtt so I'm considering refusing it this time and just keeping an eye on my sugars? Thoughts please?

I could have written this myself, only difference with me was that my results were borderline (not even slightly raised!). I also had an awful cold/flu bug at the time which I've since found out that illness can raise your sugar levels.

I had the same thoughts as you for my new pregnancy. In the end, I told the midwives at the test, that I would NOT accept being borderline, I either have it or don't have it and if I am showing borderline again then I will self test every day to keep a close eye on my levels but that I would absolutely fight any intervention unless I know it was the safest option.

As it happens, my first test at 16 weeks came back fine (levels were very low). My next one (28 weeks, the biggie!) is on Friday this week. This will be the telling one. I feel more positive about this one as I do know that my first test results at 16weeks were low, so if I am showing as just over then chances are that I have got GD again.

I will let you know how it goes,

Good luck!
x

Hi, I was worried people would think I'm mad not having it but I also had a cold and apparently your sugar levels raise further into pregnancy so I feel I don't need it but will obviously keep an eye on my sugars and if I notice anything would report immediately I just want to have a happy pregnancy and natural not induced birth or at least try good luck :) x

I did the one hour gtt and if it came back borderline they made me do the 3 hour gtt. This would give a clearer pic of whether or not that you have diabetes for pregnancy. If you take the test and it comes back borderline I would think that you could refuse any other treatment but maybe not. It works that way here. I think that you might be remise in your refusal of the test. They can't make you have an induction if you do not want one. I would personally get the test just to be on the safe side as you might have the GD and it makes for more trauma on the baby if not diagnosed. But you can always refuse the rest of it if you like.
