Hi Im new to this, Im 10wk4days preg with 2nd baby (son is 5yrs). I went for a dating scan yesterday and the woman said the baby may have a 'physiological hernia'. I have to go back in 2 weeks for another scan. I asked her what would happen if its still there and she said 'we'll discuss that then'!! Has this happened to anyone else???

really worried please help

I'm sorry I've never heard of that, hopefully some of the other girls can help you out.

Welcome to the forum!

Was it a physiological umbilical hernia?

You could always phone your doctor about it to find out more - push for an explanation - or you could google it for more information.

I hope everything works out for you.

Sorry hun, I'm not sure either, hope all is well tho and welcome to BnB

I wouldn't google it. When I google things I end up worrying myself unnecessarily. Maybe that's why they didn't want to tell you as it might turn out to be nothing? If you can't wait though, make them tell you! I hope it clears :)

I'm not a medical expert but a physiological hernia is where part of the intestines is still outside the body.

When the baby is growing, early on their intestines form outside the body because there just isn't enough room for them to be covered but later the skin covers them. With a physiological hernia part of them doesn't get covered around where the belly button will be or rather where the umbilical cord is now.

Doctors operate on there hernias shortly after birth.

I know it's easy to say and hard to do but try not to worry too much. Lots of babies are born with this and are fine.

I hope everything goes well at your next appointment. :hugs: :hugs:

thanks for all your replies.I rang hospital and they said it is normal early on and they are hoping it will have cleared up by next scan!!!!!! If not then op for baby once born...

suppose its wait and see

hope all is well with all of you

cheers again for replies xxxxx

You're right Toria. Google can worry you and is not always correct.

Good luck with your next appointment, I hope everything is fine.:hugs:
