I know this is reallly unrelated but can u produce breast milk without being pregnant and wat exsactly are the chances of this happening.

My friend has told me shes bin leaking at the boobs, i had a look n it looks very much like wat im producing and im pregnant.
I know some people when they are around children n newborns it can make them produce milk but i only thought that happened if the child nursed on the breasts?

Ive obviously told her to do a test, as wud rule pregnancy out straight away, but is there any chance it cud be anything else??

Thanks for the help

xxxxx

If a woman who has never been pregnant starts producing milk, she should visit her GP.

A bit about unexpected milk production:

There are a few other things it could be, she really should see her GP who'll be able to help. Has she been pregnant before?

nah shes never bin pregnant before, ill tell her bout going to the GP but shes the sort of girl tht just ignores things till they get to the point she cnt ignore it nomore.

shes never had this problem before tho, periods are regular everythings normal, its all quite bizarre

i know that they can give you medication to mke u produce milk (ie for adoptive mothers who want to breastfeed thier adopted babies etc) but im not sure about spontaneous milk development. get her to see her gp right away

You can produce milk if you've never been pregnant if given enough erm....stimulation:blush:. As mentioned before, adoptive mothers can sometimes breastfeed but usually take medication as well to help.

As also mentioned (unless she's pregnant and not told you) any changed in the breast, tenderness, leakage, itchiness, bleeding etc really needs to be addressed and she should go to the Drs and get checked out:dohh:

Yes you can. My friend does and its a prolactin imbalance :)

The production of milk is purely down to hormones. It is possible, though incredibly rare, for the hormones normally associated with pregnancy and birth to be produced without a pregnancy factoring into it and for breast milk to be produced.
