I guess it is a good thing? I have had tons of Hicks, some menstrual cramping but now 38 weeks and not really a single painful contraction, unlike my first. Over my past few checks, I've been 1-2cm, 0%-50% effaced and +3. Today I am 3cm, 50% and more like +1-2 he says!

Of course no one can predict but worried I won't start contracting on my own. Oh how I don't want to be induced/Pitocin!!! :nope:

Any thoughts?

No help here, but I sure am jealous! My baby is due in 5 days and I'm still sealed up like Fort Knox. Nothing I do has caused me to efface or dilate or get him to engage or ANYTHING! Good luck to you, send some of whatever you've got my way!

This is normal. Your body's ligaments and muscles are stretched from your first pregnancy, and baby is able to descend easier causing dilation and efacement. It's very reasonable to be 3 cm for weeks preceding labour. I wouldn't worry just yet :)

My doctor didn't mention if baby has engaged, but at my 36 wk appointment I found out that I'm 3 cm, 60% effaced. I was the same at the 37 week check. I went into natural labor with my son and hoping for the same this time around.

I don't see any reason you wouldn't contract on your own! A friend of mine due with her 2nd was at 6 cm for SIX DAYS before going into labor naturally.

We have the same due date, btw. :)
