hey ladies hope u dont mind me posting here, just been to the docs and they told me normal prolactin should be 630 or below, well mine is 1390 so i have been referred to an endocrinologist (i think thats it ) anyway they think this may be the problem as to why i dont have a baby yet, she said i will be put on tablets etc for it i just would like to know if any of you have had this or know anything about it and or what medication will it be thanks girls

I had problems with prolactin from undiagnosed hypothyroid - when that was corrected, the prolactin resolved itself.
It can make you anovulatory, if untreated - which happened to me...
I think Bromophine (sp?) is the name of the drug used to regulate prolactin. I think there is a condition called prolactinoma. Thats all I know really :iron:

I have or you can say I had idiopathic hyperprolactinemia. Basically means that there is no explanation as to why my prolactin levels were so high. They first found out about this back in 2001/2002 and my levels were as high as 1800. My last test which was only a few weeks ago...my prolactin came back at 114. :happydance:

When I first found out about this, they had to give me a CAT scan to see if there was a tumour on my pituary gland which is prolactinemia. But lucky there wasn't one. Also, I had not met my DH then so the tablet wasn't given to me until a year or so after I was married and the thought of getting pregnant was in my future. Although, I took it on and off again through the years, I have been taking it non-stop now from December 2008 and they dropped really quickly. The tablet is Bromocriptine.

But to be honest, it is nothing to worry about...it can be retified with the tablet. My doctor has clearly told me that my prolactin is not my issue now for my TTC problems. So don't worry or stress too much over them. If you want you can have a look at the first page of my LTTTC journal which has a list of all my levels.

thanks ladies, irish eyes thanks i went for blood tests and they ruled out thyroid etc so im just waqiting for appt with endocrinologist now, doc says she thinks it could be why im not getting pregnant my levels should have been 630 or below but where 1390, im gonna have a look at your diary thanks

When you do go to your Endro and they offer Bromo...take it. My consultant did not explain to me properly what the tablet does. I thought that it stops you getting pregnant. But when I went to one of my appointment, a doc filling in for my consultant explained it better to me. That I can take it and it WON'T effect pregnancy. :dohh: Otherwise, I would have taken it sooner. But yes, it could be the reason you are not falling pregnant but don't worry about that as it is easily fixed. Good luck and keep me updated. xxxx

just started a thread on raised prolactin levels and ssri anti depressants as im convinced thats why i dont O.
i think the good news is prolactin levels can be fairly easily corrected/reduced depending on the cause of course.
good luck look at this as a 1st positive step to identifying problem and gettin it sorted x
