I know I should ask my Pdr about this but my appointment won’t be till I’m 38 weeks pregnant (32 now) and I guess if I’m planning to taper off prozac before giving birth I should start a little before 38 weeks or so. Anyone have any experience with SSRI during pregnancy and were withdrawal symptoms in newborns a reason to taper off medication in the last few weeks of pregnancy?

My GP was going to prescribe me something similar a few months ago but I decided I would see how things went and didn’t need them . She did go through all the risks /benefits. She mentioned that newborns can be more sleepy, it can affect their nervous system so they jitter a lot and a increase in their heart rate . She also mentioned to stop them a couple of weeks before my due date.

I think to taper off them depends on the woman and how she feels she would/can cope without taking them.

Hopefully your GP/midwife will able to advise you more x

Can you call and ask even though your appt is not until 38 weeks? They may recommend you continue using them or a gradual decrease in the meds before due date. Good luck!

I have taken antidepressants throughout all of my pregnancies. I'm currently taking mitazipine. I'm 35+5 and I'm having my section at 36+6. I will continue to take my antidepressants. It had no effect on my other children and the benefits outweigh the risks for me. I'm sure everything will be fine luv xx

Thanks ladies.

I managed to ask the Dr bc a family member had an appointment and he said no need to taper before delivery in my case.
