hello
my baby was weighed today (10 days old) and she has lost more than 10% of her weight and that's with me feeding her every 2 hours for the past 3.5 days.
i just gave her a little formula after having breastfed her and she took it in nicely and let me know when she didn't want any more but after like 2 minutes she puked (I think) nearly all of it up.
I was wondering if it's normal for babies to throw up the first time they have formula, I suppose it would make sense since it's so new to their little tummies..??
Please let me know if you have experienced this too, I'm now afraid of putting her down on her cot in case she throws up again so we're keeping her upright.
Thanks
B.

we're using Aptamil.
just gave her another feed and she hasn't thrown up, but she took less than on the last feed. we're a bit scared we gave her too much earlier and she took to the bottle very enthusiastically, she may have drunk it too fast.
it's going to be a loooong night!

Like you say maybe she had a little too much or a bit of wind brought it up. Just give little often then she should be ok x

Yes it is, Abi did exactly the same she projectile vomited the whole feed back up and apparently it's because it's new to their tummy's! She was fine on every feed after and we did the same in keeping her a bit upright we propped up her mattress in her Moses basket a bit.

thanks guys!
i was so sad today when we saw that she hadn't gained any weight since Tuesday that the smallest thing suddenly seemed too much to bear.
While breastfeeding she hasn't vomited once so it was the first time ever and it's so scary and sad to see her little face of confusion afterwards...
Hopefully she'll get used to the new milk soon.

Hey hun, since she is only a week old it's totally normal for them to loose %10.. on average they gain that back by 2 weeks so if you want to continue breastfeeding you should! Anyways its normal for them to puke after, my LO spit up a alot the first few times, it's just so new to their stomach and it goes down alot faster than breastmilk, so they tend to drink too much too quickly. x
