To the ladies who have gone through IVF:

How long do you have to take shots and/or medication before egg retrieval?

hi hun it varys from person to person and depends on what protocol/meds your on for me i started stims on the 2nd of feb triggered on the 9th feb and had egg retrieval on the 11th feb x

Oh wow, that wasn't a long time at all!

I'm waiting for the NYS grant to come through so we can start IVF. I can't wait to get started! This wait is killing me!

i know what you mean we are self funded but it was still a 3 month wait from initial appointment to actually starting and then my af didnt arrive on time so had to wait for that once you start though it all goes by very quickly, good luck hun x

Hi Chris77 - i did the long protocol and it took a month from down-regging injections to trigger shot... So it really is dependant on the protocol the hospital sort out for you.

How is it decided....between the long and short protocol?

I agree.on my first cyclr-short protocol-i stimmed for 11 days from cd2.second time i started downregs on cd 21,continued for 2weeks,then stimmed agaim for 10 days,spent a day without medsbecause of risk of ohssand then triggered on day 11.third time started downregs on cd1, wasnt ready in time and continued for 23days b4stims,the they cancelled the cycle on day 6 of stims as i only had 9 follies that were growing a bit slower than before,but i think they cancelled because it was cutting it fine for x-masNow i'm on 3months of zoladax.

Yeah, everyone if different, they will tailor a programme to suit you. I myself took metformin for 3 weeks before af arrived (cause I was at risk of over-stimulating), then started stims on cd3, then ovitrelle from cd5, & I continued both of these until cd9, triggered on cd9, & egg collection was on cd11. EC was originally intended to be cd14, but I responded well to the meds & they took me in earlier so I didn't over-stimulate.

I used this site when i was on my long protocol and it was just out on dates by two days but it gave me an idea on how the process would be..

I didnt stimm for as long as the website said as i responded quicker but the website helped as it works out when to expect your period and expect to be down regged etc by the dates you input..

Quite handy if your doing long protocol.

I started injecting down regging on cd21 period came 12 days ltr then i started the stimms for 10 days and then had EC..few days ltr so the process isnt as long as you think (they say 6 weeks when long as they include your 2ww)

I am unsure on why some do long and some do short ivf. I assume its down to the blood tests they run when you start the ivf process which then lets the clinic make the decision on which your respond better too.

Mine was long protocol as i was eggsharing so I had to match my cycle with the lady who was waiting for my eggs. (i think) however even without eggsharing they did say i would be place on long protocol. x
