I had a routine appointment today and they measured my belly. I'm 24 weeks but I'm measuring 26 weeks. I'm curious as to what can cause this. Am I going to have a large baby? I'm really afraid of having a big baby and I'm taking my 3hr glucose test sometime next week to make sure I don't have GD, I failed the 1hr test by 4 points T.T
I don't know how accurate the tape over the belly measurements are, its kind of funny that I'm measuring ahead as my DH and I have been saying that he's going to come early and that I'm a little farther along than we think. I'm curious if any of the other mommies on here measured ahead and still had decently sized babies (like 7-8 lbs)

I wouldn't think they would be too reliable. You stomach can vary based on a lot of factors; baby position, water retention, etc. I've been at least twice the size I was with my first pregnancy since I pretty much conceived! I would be more concerned about actual fetal measurements.

As pp said, belly measurements aren't very accurate. It can depend on bubs position, water retention and quite a few other things. It's always best to go off your ultrasounds as these are the most accurate :)

I do agree with the others^^^^ , but to answer ur question, with 3 of mine I measured ahead. 2 were average size 7lb 9oz, & 7lb 4oz. I measured big with them because of xtra fluid ( which can indicate a problem, but with me it didn't ) my last I measured big from the beginning, and he was big. 9lb 10 oz, and I'm only 5'2", so for me he was huge, lol. My first baby I measured normal, and he was 7 lb 10 oz.

hey my mw only measured bump with tape for me last fri. Am 23wks today so at 22+5 she put 22cm but my other utrus mesurments were above get age frm mw touching. At 16wks i was measuring 20wks on my 20wk scan bubs spot on for dates so i was relieved as like u dnt want big bubs or gd. Fluid level bein high or as you said poss further than thought can affect this an believe they allow 2cm either way as norm. I like a pp said am only 5ft 2inch and my prev babies were small 6ib 12oz an 6ib 7oz.

Thank you for the answers ladies :)
I was also curious as at my 20 week scan he weighted approx. 13oz which she said was normal but when I looked up average weight around 20 weeks it was like 10 oz. I know babies grow at different rates and maybe he just put on a bit of weight and is now chilling out but its good to know this doesn't necessarily mean he will be a huge baby. Fingers are crossed that I pass my glucose test.
