may sound a bit daft but if baby was to feed without stopping (not that it would happen, although it may feel that way sometimes) would you just keep producing milk or is it like emptying a bag that needs time to refill its self?

As I understand it, it will keep producing indefinitely as long as its being stimulated.

"It's a manufacturing plant not a storage warehouse" to quote my breastfeeding peer support tutor.

If you think about it, when your supply regulates to what your LO needs you no longer get the engorged boobs, unless you skip a feed for whatever reason. So when they "know what they are doing" they don't store anywhere near as much.

Yes baby has to work at it more when it's not "right there", but that's what baby ought to be doing to stimulate milk production (and learn that there's no such thing as a free lunch - life is hard man!!!:haha:)
