We have just made our first appointment with an RE and will see him in two weeks time. My question is how often are appointments with them? We live over three hours away and I'm just wondering how often we will be expected to go after our first visit. Any info is greatly appreciated!

A lot of that will depend on where you are based and if you are in the UK, it will also depend on whether you are paying privately or NHS.

I'm with the NHS and had my first appointment October 2010 where they conducted tests, the second was April 2011 where I was given Clomid (had scans from CD10-14 to check for ovulation on every Clomid cycle). I had a review appointment in November 2011 and finally having my fourth in four weeks.

Things are different in other regions though, Northern Ireland has limited resources.

I have great insurance, so i go pretty often. I was going about 1 once a month after we hit the 9 month mark, then once i started seeing a FS after the 1 year mark it was 2 times a months. but now i might be going 3 times a month bc i want to get my levels checked after i O now. So once at the beginning of my cycle to clear me for my cycle of clomid (check for cysts), once in midcycle to check the size of my follies and then once after i O to check progesterone levels to make sure i O'd.

Oh wow, that is an awful long wait! I would lose my mind. Have you moved on from clomid? I did three unsuccessful cycles. I was really hoping it would be some magical pill for me...but it wasn't. I didn't have monitoring with any of the cycles, so who knows what is going on. It is such a frustrating process.

I have good insurance and I am hoping they will cover a lot of it. I have done three cycles of clomid unmonitored so I wonder if they will put me on it again or seek an alternative route since it didn't work. So I guess I should plan on traveling a bit for appointment if this place works similar to yours. I don't really care, I just want a plan!

Although the Clomid helped me to ovulate, it didn't really work for me. The appointment we have next month is for Ovulation Induction via injectables. Not looking forward to it, I hate needles. The waiting time here is so long because their is only one NHS funded Fertility Center in the whole of Northern Ireland with only a handful of doctors.
