Hello ladies, I'm 13 weeks today and finally popping over into 2nd tri.

I have a question. I had my 13 week apt this morning and dr. said that because I'm O Negative I have to have a special shot around 28 weeks in case my baby is O Positive otherwise my blood will fight baby's blood. Has anyone had this? Is it something to be worried about?

Hi Hun my mum was O neg and I am O positive and that was 23 years ago she just needed a shot incase my blood went into her or the other way around as we could have killed each other but everything is fine as long as u have the shot Hun everything will be ok xx

Im B neg so will also have to have a shot at 28 weeks and then again after birth if baby is positive. My doc said its not an issue at all.

I'm B negative and had the jab last week. It stings a little but nothing to worry about.

I'm O neg - absolutely nothing to worry about a jab at 28 weeks and another after birth if your baby is positive... xx

Yeah I'm the same. This is my second, you usually have one at 28 weeks and if you have any bleeding in pregnancy you should have one then too. My daughter is the same bloody type as me so I didn't need one after birth but if they're positive you may need another one after giving birth. Nothing to worry about though

Yup, I had it when pregnant with ds and dd and then after their births as they are B+ like their daddy. I cant remember it any of the times so definitely not bad and nothing to worry about.

I've already had it this time at 8 weeks as I was in Germany when it happened and they give it that early if you have bleeding. Mw at home said they wouldn't have given it and I still need to have it at 28 weeks. You must tell them if you have any bleeding as you might get the jag then.

Honestly nothing to worry about xx

I'm O negative and have had the shot several times. In the UK if you're rhesus negative you get it at 28weeks as standard, after giving birth if baby is rhesus positive and you should also have it if you have any bleeding after 28weeks. Basically if you're rhesus negative and your blood comes into contact with rhesus positive blood you make antibodies to destroy positive blood cells. In pregnancy your blood and babies don't usually mix (except when you give birth) so it's not a problem, but if they did the antibodies are small enough to cross the placenta where they would destroy babies blood if baby is rhesus positive. It's not the nicest of jabs to have but it's really important.

I'm O neg but I decline anti-D injections as my OH is B neg so it is impossible for us to have a Rhesus positive child. I have fun confusing student midwives by making them think about the genetics! It seems to be very very unusual to know your partner's blood type and decline the anti-D. They all seem rather surprised!

What this is just that your blood is missing the Rh factor. Positive blood types have the Rh factor and negative blood types do not.

If you are a negative blood type, 9 times out of 10 you will get what is called the Rhogam shot in the 27-28 week, and then again very shortly after delivery only if baby is positive blood type. The only time I have heard of it not being given in the 27-28 week is if both parents are tested and are known to be negative blood types.

I'm AB-. With my first, we knew my son's father was AB+, so I had the shot in my 28th week, and as soon as DS was born, they tested his blood type and he was also AB- so I did not have to have the shot again.

This time around, my OH has no idea what his blood type is, so the plan is to have the shot again around 28 weeks, and Pickle will be tested soon after delivery to find out if I need the shot again.

I'm O negative, with my son I refused the anti D. I had to be extra cautious of seat belts and wary of protecting my bump. I was told as long as I had no bleeding there was nothing to worry about. When my son was born they tested his blood and he was negative so I didn't need any shots. If he was positive I would've had the injection. I'm doing the same this time round xx

I'm O- and my DH is A+ so I'm getting the injection next week at 28 weeks. Try not to worry - whilst the blood type isn't so common, the solution is pretty fail safe.

I am O- and had the shot at 28weeks. Last time I also had the shot at 28 weeks and my Lo was O+ so needed another one after birth too. I didn't even think about it just accepted it was something I needed to have it does sting but not bad. I had two steroid shots and it doesn't even compare ouch!

I am negative and my hubby's blood type is unknown.
We will test his blood and if he is also negative, we don't need a shot. -my dr. agreed with that.
however, my mom was I group negative and my dad was III group negative. They thought it is a great match but their first born had a problem, other children had no problem.
I'll think extra double about the shot....

I'm a- and you don't need the shot during pregnancy (I did a lot of research). I waited until after birth and found out baby was positive. Then I had the shot.

This time around I will do the same if I'm not forced into anything.
If tere is any bleeding or anything dying the pregnancy then it would probably be necessary.

I am O neg - DH is O Pos. I get the shots done ... and glad i did as DS is O Pos like his father. Its nothing to be scared of, i personally found he injection didn't even hurt!
