I take it due to previous miscarriages & so far so good with this one so hopefully it's working. My specialist has told me to take it up to 34 weeks. For me it's autoimmune issues which it's supposed to help with.
Laura, Sorry to hear about your losses. If you don't mind me asking, how many weeks were you when you miscarried and how many weeks are you now with your sticky bean? How did you find out you have autoimmune issues? Is it something obvious or they found it in blood work? I understand aspirin preventing blood clots and then therefore miscarriages but I'm really curious about how it work for autoimmune issues.
I was 6+5 with the first and 4+4 with the second. After the second I did my own research and thought it may well have been autoimmune related as these tend to be the cause of earlier losses, I guess, as the body basically attacks the baby it neevr has a chacne to develope for very long. I also have psoriarsis which is an autoimmune condition and IBS which can sometimes be caused by it.
I was very lucky as I got referred to my local recurrent miscarriage clinc after only 2 losses where most places it needs to be 3. They did a whole host of blodd tests, the usual thyroid and blood clotting among others including an immune work up. To both mine and my Drs surprise the results all came back clear!! It shouldn't really because of the psoriarsis but I can only guess it wasn't active when I had the tests even though it was clearly on my head, elbow and every else I have it!! My Dr decided to treat me with aspirin anyway as it couldn't do any harm. I also take extra folic acid and progesterone cream, not on the Drs recommendation but he said it wouldn't do any harm so if I wanted to to go ahead. I think the aspirin helps surpress your immune system in some way but not sure exctly how.
I am now 11 weeks pregnant and as far as I know all is good, I've had 3 reassurance scans with the last being at 9 weeks and all was perfect. Next one is next Monday at 12 weeks so keeping everything crossed.
I read a brilliant book by Dr alan Beer called - is your body baby friendly. It had a lot of info relating to the link between autoimmune issues and misscairriages and unexplained infertiliy, I'd highly recommend reading it.
