For anyone taking aspirin to try and get a BFP I have a few questions...

Did your doctor tell you to do it or you read it some where?
How many mg do you take?
What's the reasoning behind taking it?
And do you know if it maters when you start taking it/when is it most effective? From cd1 when the lining is being shed. Mid cycle when it starts getting thicker? Around implantation time?

Thank you! I read it somewhere and of course at this point you start getting a little desperate and willing to try anything as long as it's not potentially harmful.

I would like to know as well!!!!!
i was prescribed aspirin after I had a D&C...after an ectopic....Dr. didn say to keep taking it until and after pregnant...just gave me a months worth....
Seems the Dr.s I have been around...don't give as much info as these forums........
I'm loosing faith in my Reular Dr. and my fertility specialist......

If you check the 'assisted conception' section, I put the same thread and a few replied.

Hi Pheonix. It was suggested in one of the fertility books I have. Can't remember what it is called though! The authors are from New york, one is called Sami if that helps...and one is a medical doctor and one is a chinese practioner. They say it can be good for recurrent miscarriages or anti bodies. I am taking it for a couple of cycles - havent told my reguar doctor though as the might disaporve.

My platelets are high :( This causes miscarriages. I have never been pregnant, but I have read that low dose aspirin will thin out your blood preventing miscarriages due to thick blood. I don't think it matters when in your cycle you take it. I started taking it at the start of my period because that's when I discovered I had thick blood.

I'm wondering if I should continue to take the aspirin if I get pregnant.

BTW the book was The Fertility PLan by Dr Sami David.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Mostly I just wanted to make sure it wasn't harmful in case I wanted to do it.

I take it due to previous miscarriages & so far so good with this one so hopefully it's working. My specialist has told me to take it up to 34 weeks. For me it's autoimmune issues which it's supposed to help with.

Laura, Sorry to hear about your losses. If you don't mind me asking, how many weeks were you when you miscarried and how many weeks are you now with your sticky bean? How did you find out you have autoimmune issues? Is it something obvious or they found it in blood work? I understand aspirin preventing blood clots and then therefore miscarriages but I'm really curious about how it work for autoimmune issues.

I was 6+5 with the first and 4+4 with the second. After the second I did my own research and thought it may well have been autoimmune related as these tend to be the cause of earlier losses, I guess, as the body basically attacks the baby it neevr has a chacne to develope for very long. I also have psoriarsis which is an autoimmune condition and IBS which can sometimes be caused by it.

I was very lucky as I got referred to my local recurrent miscarriage clinc after only 2 losses where most places it needs to be 3. They did a whole host of blodd tests, the usual thyroid and blood clotting among others including an immune work up. To both mine and my Drs surprise the results all came back clear!! It shouldn't really because of the psoriarsis but I can only guess it wasn't active when I had the tests even though it was clearly on my head, elbow and every else I have it!! My Dr decided to treat me with aspirin anyway as it couldn't do any harm. I also take extra folic acid and progesterone cream, not on the Drs recommendation but he said it wouldn't do any harm so if I wanted to to go ahead. I think the aspirin helps surpress your immune system in some way but not sure exctly how.

I am now 11 weeks pregnant and as far as I know all is good, I've had 3 reassurance scans with the last being at 9 weeks and all was perfect. Next one is next Monday at 12 weeks so keeping everything crossed.

I read a brilliant book by Dr alan Beer called - is your body baby friendly. It had a lot of info relating to the link between autoimmune issues and misscairriages and unexplained infertiliy, I'd highly recommend reading it.

Dear Laura,
I am just starting to look into Dr. Beer and immunology since I have been infertile for 5 years and by now have been in NaProTechnology for almost a year. They have helped my hormones get on track but still I have had no pregnancy (except two chemicals). So I am starting to think that maybe there might be something immunological here (I also have endometriosis which may have to do with NK cells according to some theories) I just hope you can give me a few answers. Are you only taking aspirin now and nothing else for immunological issues? Do you think it is okay to take 100 mg every second day because I only could get 100 mg here and not the usual 70? Or should I try 100 mg every day? On what cycle day did you start taking the aspirin? Does Dr Beer mention aspirin in his book?
How amazing it must be to see such a scan picture as yours...
All the best wishes
Amber

I'm taking the aspririn on my Drs advice but I am also taking extra folic acid based on info in Dr Beers book. I've doubled my dose to 800mg but from what I remember Dr Beer may prescribe up to 2000 mg!! I was using progesterone cream anyhow as I suspected I had a defciency due to a short luteal phase, I then increased the amount I used after the second miscarrigae, again due to some of the treatment Dr Beer suggests. Progesterone is the hormone which makes your body naturally surpress your immune sytem during pregnancy so it makes sense you may need more if you have an overactive immune system to start with.

From what I've read either 75 or 81mg aspirin tablets are ok to use. In the UK I've only seen 75mg but I think in other parts of the world 81mg is more common. I'm not sure about increasing it to 100mg but if it is ok I think it would be needed daily to be effective. Have you tried going to your GP to see if he prescribe the lower dose? I started taking it once AF had finished, my Dr has told me to continue taking it up to 34 weeks.

I think with 2 chemicals it could be immune problems. Do you have any other underlying health problems which are autoimmune related? Rheumatoid athritus(sp?) is a one which isn't always recognised as such.

Thank you for your compliments on the scan picture, I have to say, seeing it was my first proud Mummy moment! :cloud9:

I hope you find some answers from the book and can get yourself referred to the right specialist to give you the tests you need.

Thank you so much for all the information, it has been very helpful. I will definitely be getting that book. Thanks again, and good luck!

Thank you so much for your patient reply. Yeah you must be sooo proud to have such a beautiful healthy baby.
So I guess I will not "self-medicate" with the aspirin I have bought;) Luckily my fertility doctor who I wrote and asked to take a look at Dr. Beers work, wrote me back and said he has already read Beer's book and will get back to me about it. I was so happy. My doctor is a very open minded person with a genuine interest in my case:)
Thanks again

5 mg folic acid? Just curious, cause of the typo. Good luck and I hope you get your sticky bean this time around!

I am taking 5 mg of folic acid too. It's in my prescription prenatal vitamin. I don't think it was a typo.
