Hi ladies, I know this has been already asked before, but I seem to have an issue with blood, I get really freaked out when I see some, like eg I had a sweep yesterday and was bleeding afterwards which freaked me out, also had a nose bleed this morning and was shaking afterwards... I know I won't avoid it when giving birth, just want to ask how much did you bleed during and after the birth? Feel stupid and like a complete coward :dohh: but can't help myself worrying. Thanks

I'm a FTM, so I'm no help... but from what I hear, it can be quite a bit of bleeding. I've been spending some time lurking in the postnatal support forum, just to prepare myself for the aftermath of the birth! I think now I'm less scared of the actual labor, and more concerned about the recovery afterward. Because I am such a wimp, and terrified of being in constant pain :(

I had a minor PPH (lost 900ml of blood) so I lost a lot but tbh I was so out of it after the birth I didn't even realise. After that I bled for 5 weeks, only first 2 weeks were heavy from what I remember. Just like a really heavy period. x

I'm afraid to tell you that you bleed loads!!! You will need maternity pads or the biggest Always pads and loads of them!!!! You also bleed for weeks afterwards. You'll get over it lol!!! x

You will have a good amount of bleeding after the birth but as you are pregnant I'm guessing you deal with your periods each month its just the same! Mind over matter-start thinking about it now, its healthy and very natural nothing bad will come of it so there is nothing to fear and no need to panic.

This was the same for me too...

I tell you what, my first period after birth was horrifying.. not due to the bleeding but the tremendous ache down below. Bought tears to my eyes

I don't remember seeing much blood when actually giving birth (was a bit out of it though to be honest!!!) And afterwards it is just like having a heavy period but it lasts for weeks. If you can cope with your periods you will cope with blood after birth!!

i bleed a lot but not enough to go on iron tablets. the midwifes clean it up very fast so didnt really notice...to loved up with my baby. you do bleed a lot after too but the good maternity pads help

I bled a lot during the birth but didn't see any of it luckily. It was not enough to need iron tablets - my levels were monitored for the 2-days I was in hospital and they were fine. I think its like spilt milk, it looks a LOT, but actually isn't that much.
Mind you, it was enough that they put a sheet over my OHs eyes as he walked past the end of my bed to tell our parents baby had arrived safely!!!!!!!!

For me, the bleeding afterwards was just like the heaviest period ever. I've never really suffered from heavy periods so I guess you could say it was a lot for me. But still not enough to make me feel really concerned or worried, or freaked out etc.

It only lasted heavily for a couple of weeks and then settled down to a much lighter loss for another week or two.

You will be fine I'm sure. Def. get loads of HUGE maternity pads in so they soak it up well and you don't feel it too much. and we kept a black bin liner in our loo's so that I could quickly wrap it up and dispose of it asap.

Hugs xxxxxxx
