For anyone who has installed their baby car seats - I have installed mine by the instructions that come with it (very hard to understand) but if I give it a shake it just moves heaps:shrug: is this normal? Have you found the same problem?

i had the same thing happen. and i installed it 3 different ways lol my husband thinks it's normal? but idk

i'll be stalking this thread lol

installed ours today. same thing. i dont see whay they dont make them a little more stable. but babies have been fine for years in them just this same way so im not going to worry too much. i know it is installed correctly and they will check at the hospital also.

Yes, they do wiggle a bit, even installed properly.

I watched a car seat installation video that suggested putting a rolled up towel under the foot. And laying on the base/carseat to tighten it down. I tried it this morning and now it moves no more than an inch in any direction.

When our first was born we installed it and it shook a bit, enough that I thought we did it wrong so we went to the fire stations where they will check car seats to make sure they are in right and they told us there is always some wiggle to them just to make sure all the straps are secure and that it wont tip side to side, backwards or forwards.

They told us the wiggle was in case we got in an accident that the car seat would flow a little with the movement instead of jerking really hard just like you are less likely to be injured in a car accident if you are relaxed and move with the motion instead of being stiff and being jerk around hard.

Do always make sure it is secure and doesnt tip to either side, forward or backwards. Some wiggle is normal though.

we have an isofix base and all the lights have come on to say it is in properly and it wobbles from side to side so i'm assuming this is normal x

Thanks ladies, I might take it to get checked out just incase; it just seems not right:shrug:

I asked this same question a couple of days ago and someone posted this video link. It has really reassured me. I wasn't expecting the seat to wobble so much either.

Yes, they will all have some wobble but some are much better fitting in certain cars than others. We tried out lots of seats in halfords and mothercare before buying ours and we are finally happy with the fit - thats the infant carrier and also my toddlers new next size car seat.

Do not push it side to side from the top of the carseat, where the handle usually is. Push/bang it side to side from the base of the seat and it shouldnt move as much. Also it is the forward movement that is more important in a crash. Try shove it forwards like in the video above.

I do suggest that if you are a bit worried, then go get it checked out - lots of carseats are not good fits in cars. Dont just assume that as you followed the instructions then its safe...:flower:

We bought an isofix base to try and correct the problem, but as DH decided to buy the sports version of the car type we have... it has no bars to attach itself to!

Saying that however its still very sturdy and there isn't much wobble at all even without the clips  But when the base is taken away and the seat turned around (as baby gets bigger) it wobbles loads even with the two seat belts across it! I assume its fine, we followed the instructions, if all else fails I might just pad it with some blankets or something!
