Hi Girls

Firstly I hope that no-one minds me posting in here.

Just wondering how long people have been off the depo and how long you've been trying for. Its just that Ive been off the Depo now for appox 2 years going straight on to BCP's after. DF and I where 'lucky' enough to fall preggers by accident but heartbreakingly lost our baby at 7 weeks. I have heard many things that Depo can lead to future MC and also fertility can take months/years to return. We have only been trying for 3 cycles which I know is not long at all. But as you can probably imagine Im very concerned of the damage that I have done to my body.

Any information on this would be really appreciated.

Kerry xxxx

tmr1234 - Thanks for your post, I definatley would never had gone on to the Depo had I known how terrible it can be.

I hope that your body gets back on track and a :bfp: is around the corner for you.

I was on the depo from age 15 to nearly 23.....didnt go for my renewal jab in the November and fell pregnant in the following March having not had a period yet (im assuming the egg was getting ready and was fertilized!)

My mum was on it for 5 years....she came off it to have my little brother....it took 8 months for her period to return and she fell pregnant with my brother after her first returned period.

I personally had no problems with the depo (it actually took me longer to fall pregnant when coming of the pill this time around) and will be going back on it when i have had this baby....

Hope things work out for you and you get a BFP soon....

Hi rachiebaby24 - Looks like the Depo has worked well for you. So thats really comforting to hear. Thanks for your post.

I guess i am one of the lucky ones.....i have never heard of people having fertility problems on it before and certianly wasnt told of any negative effects by it before i went on it....but having said that....i was told that apparently it is the nearest birth control to strilisation and i have known people to have problems with their periods both whilst on it and having come off it.

I dont think that there is enough knowledge about the good and bad sides of this drug....i certainly wasnt told of any bad effects.

befor my son 4yrs ago i was on the pill and only took 3 months to fall with him

I've tried to look into it over the internet and there is not much about the fertility part really. So thought Id do my own research!

Hi there, Don't want to bring bad news, just my experience with Depo. It took me 2 years to achieve a cycle again, and that was with provera tablets I think they were called ( sorry long time ago) and have never achieved a pregnancy in the last 4 years of TTC.

If you google ( you may not want to) there are plenty of sites that give you the general knowledge that delayed fertility is a very common side effect from Depo. The fact that I was not told ( they now give out a fact sheet due to so many law suits) exactly how Depo effects the body upsets me still, I would have sought other birth control.

However, from all my reading, the "normal" is cycles naturally return within 12 months and the "average" person takes 10 months to achieve a pregnancy.

Not wishing to cause any panic, just giving you my experience and wishing you all the very best in your journey.

Thanks waiting TBH honest and up-front information is what I wanted!! Im not so keen on pussy-footing around! I seem to be OV-ing fine using OPK's. But obviously worried that a little bean might not stick due to thinning of the womb.

I sincerley hope that your wait for a :bfp: isnt too much longer.

I was on Depo for over 5 years last shot April 07 - no af until Dr put me on meds to bring it back after a a year. I was referred to see a specialist after it didn't work the 3rd month who ended up telling me my only option was IVF. I faught for more tests and thankfully things have got better. AF is back now but i'm not ovulating so i'm about to start my first month on Clomid YAY!!!!

The first time i had depo it took 8 months to get AF back but i fell PG with DS within the first month of AF coming back, so it can happen xx

I was on Depo for about 3.5 years when I decided to stop taking it to see how long it would take me to return to normal. I didn't have my period for a few months and then I was having unprotected sex with my OH. I became pregnant and had a miscarriage in Oct. 2007 @ 10 weeks. :( I then became pregnant again after having one period after the miscarriage.

I'm so sorry.....I'm crying while typing. I didn't realize that depo could cause problems with fertility, or i would have never started it. I was on depo years ago, but was taken off due to excessive weight gain and having my period for over forty days in a row. I'm now looking back and trying to remember when I was on it. It was def within the last four or five years. Maybe i should ask my doctor next time i'm in for an appt.

I didn't actually realize that this could mess with my fertility, or i would have just found a different birth control pill that would have worked for me.

As some of you may know, I was pregnant this year, first time trying. And miscarried at three months due to unknown reasons. I now wonder if this is the answer. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Hi, I know this thread isn't fresh anymore but I just wanted to add my experience. I was on depo for years. It took me 1 year to have a period and then a few months more to have regular periods. I'm now regular but unfortunately I'm nearing 35 yrs now. Its evil stuff. Its been a while TTC (11 months) and I'm starting to consider alternatives. I hope you have better luck than me.

Hey, I was on the depo for a year and came of June 2007, My periods returned December 2007 and i feel pregnant in febuary 2008 but sadly lost the baby in march, I the fell pregnant again in June 2008 and am now 12 weeks and the baby is due in march 2009, so there is hope for everyone out there that has been on the depo but yea it is a nasty drug that can mess about with your fertility, Sorry for your loss and I wish you the best of luck with TTC in the near futre, sending lots of baby dust your way, Hugs and kisses x x
