Hi All,

I'm new in here and hope that you can help and give me some advice. Hubby and I have been trying to have a baby for 13 months now, and I just saw a naturopath for the first time yesterday. She reiterated what I thought -- low progesterone. I've had two miscarriages: one at 7 weeks and one at 17 weeks (although baby died around 13 weeks, they think).

Naturopath has asked me to detoxify my body of anything that shouldn't be there (not alcohol or anything, but you know what I mean). That process takes three weeks. She also put me on a natural drug called Progesto-Mend and 50mg of B6, along with my prenatal vitamin.

My family doctor has referred me to an OB/GYN for some testing, but I haven't heard from them with an appointment date yet.

My questions are:

  • Should I call the OB/GYN to see if I can get on a cancellation list?
  • If I see him, what do they do for low progesterone?
  • How long do the tests and things take?
Thanks!!!

Hey Jessa

Great that you are also going down the natural route. I was toying with the idea of acupuncture, chinese herbs, etc.

My doctor has also referred me for testing but I think I have to have the blood tests first and not sure if OH has to have his tests too.

She did tell me there was roughly a 3 month waiting list but I would receive a letter which would give me a website to go on whereby I can choose a suitable time.

You could always call your gp again to get an update.

I am having my CD21 tests down tomorrow and it will be interesting to see what they come back like.

Keep us updated x

Thanks for the info, Rumpskin. Good luck with your tests tomorrow. I'll definitely keep you up-to-date. :)

My progesterone is low too, my GP thinks it is to do with the depo injection just taking its time to clear from my body (my last injection was November 2007) as my progesterone levels did increase from 4 to 15 (they need to be over 35 I think). I had adjusted myself to NTNP for a few months, and going to get my levels rechecked in November (if my levels have not improved to 'normal by then I will be referred on). I then stumbled across another post and within it was mentioned about taking b vits to help, so was thinking that I may as well add these in to my daily pill taking session, but have been beginning to wonder if there is anything else that I could maybe do. Sorry for jumping onto this thread but I guess I thought that this may be the place for ideas...

I was not ovulating and also have low progesterone (it was less than 1), so I take Clomid CD3-7 and Prometrium (a progesterone supplement) from days 18-32. I have also started acupuncture to see if that helps.

is prometrium prescribed or an over the counter type supplement? I don't ever recall seeing it? (in uk)

It was prescribed. I believe it can be taken orally or as a vaginal suppository. I know there are progesterone cremes, etc. that can be bought over-the-counter.
