I know this probably belongs in the 'Formula Feeding' forum but you don't normally get as much response in there so hopefully i am okay posting in Baby Club!

After 10 weeks of my LO suffering with really bad colic and trying EVERYTHING (I have even just spent the evening up the hospital speaking to a pediatrican who said its bad colic) i want to try Dr. Brown bottles. I have always used the Tommee Tippee bottles but they obviously arent helping. I have a few questions about the Dr. Brown ones tho if anyone can help?

1.) Are they really as good as everyone makes out? I've heard great things about them but it sounds too good to be true?

2.) Will they fit in my Tommee Tippee steriliser?

3.) The milk i use (C&G Comfort) is quite thick, plus my GP says i need to start putting gaviscon sachets in the milk to help with reflux. I use vari-flow teats now but can you get vari-flow teats with Dr. Browns? I noticed they have 'Y-Cut' teats is this the same thing as vari-flow?

Thanks to anyone that can help! x

All I can answer is point #1 - we have only used Dr. Browns and have never had any sort of issue with gas. My LO never had colic so I can't be of much help - I just wanted to let you know we're very happy with them :)

Hi

My daughter also had colic, i spent a fortune on dr brown bottles. I personally did not see an improvement, infact i bought anti colic bottles from superdrug which worked better.
Im unsure about the steriliser but my steriliser is a small dome one out mothercare and they fit in it.
I also was using gaviscon and i just used the teats that came with the bottles.
Anymore questions just ask :)

I changed to Dr Brown's because my little man was really suffering with wind/colic. I can honestly say he was a different baby over night. I use comfort milk and had time go up to the normal wide neck teat #2. I due Dr Brown's microwave steriliser but I di know that they fit in a tommee tippee electric steriliser. :flower:

They work amazingly and I love them. He wasn't colic but they helped SO much with his gas.

my baby isnt colic but she suffers from HORRIBLE gas ..

I use the dr brown bottles, they have nipples that go in levels by months i think..

It has got better, not gone but better.. she still has pretty bad gas unfortunately :(!

I bought some last week but took them.back the following day, they both started leaking heavily after I put them in hot water to heat the milk. Not impressed at nearly 4oz of my breast milk being wasted :growlmad:

Did you loosen the cap? They do leak if you don't because of the vent system that is used. .

1. Yes. Sorted my dd out a treat. But some babies don't like them.

2. Yes but coz of all the bits there'll be less bottles fitting in than before and I think you have to take out the shelf thing.

3. Here's the sinker. If the comfort milk doesnt leave debris then they'll be fine but you'll need to go up a teat size. Boots teats also fit but they're hard. The y cross are very fast, hard to get hold of and break easily apparently. I'm experimenting later with making my own cross cut, can let you know how that goes if you want.

I changed to Dr Brown's from Avent and ry made a world of difference - eva had mild reflux and the combination of the new bottles and gaviscon was what made the difference. I have an Avent steriliser, but my cousin also uses them and she has one of the tommie tippie sterilisers and they seem to fit in it a lot easier than my Avent one. I used the stage 2 teats when Eva was small, and she's now on the stage 3, and that was fine with the gaviscon.

They worked amazingly with my LO. He woul scream for hours with wind and overnight changed. We used comfort and that was fine. Can't help about the teats tho sorry x

We were suggested these by the dr. As they are really expensive we bought one. And used it exclusively for a week before deciding that it made our baby worse. We went back to the playtex drop in bottles that we had been using. And then changed our formula to a soy one. she has less gas and colic. Still has reflux and vomits loads but a much happier baby.

Unfortunately you're going to get very mixed reviews because just like certain formulas, it varies by baby whether they help or not. My lo isn't colicy necessarily, but she does have BAD gas that makes her uncomofortable a lot and we're now trying to find the right formula for her. I've used Dr. brown's bottles from day one and we still have MAJOR gas issues. I think it depends on why your lo is having colic symptoms. If it's only because of trapped gas from taking in air, then yes, Dr. Brown's bottles should work like a charm. Takes trial and error though. They're worth a try though, just don't buy a whole lot until you try one and see if it helps your baby.
