Hi everyone I am currently ttc my second baby and I want to be able to nurse this baby.
I was unable to with my son due to supply issues. When he was born his tounge tie was so bad he was unable to latch to a bottle. He was able to latch or so I had been told by the lactation consultant but was unable to get anything. his tie was clipped at 2.5 days old but the doc only did it halfway. the nurse helped me hand express and pump at this point and I only go 1ml of colostrum from both breast combined. We struggled until he was 5 weeks old when we were finally able to get into see another lactation consultant. At that point he would nurse 45mins a side and then cry half an hour later. i spent the 30mins between feeding pumping trying to increase my supply. at that point i had been pumping for 4 weeks and was not getting anything. He had only gained 8oz since birth. he tounge tie was clipped again and i was put on domperidone and was already taking blessed thistle and fenugreek. fast forward a week and he had gained 2oz, but still feeding for 45mins a side and only giving me a 30min break in between feedings. I caved and gave him formula, it was a miracle and he slept 4hrs. At this point i decided to just pump every 2hrs for 20mins a side and feed him that way and supplement formula. As it turned out I was only producing 6-8oz a day. I continued this until he was 4 months and gave up.
So now my questions are
1) how do I live with the guilt of not being able to do it when it comes so easily to other people?
2) will these supply issues happen again with baby #2
3) should I start pumping immediately after feedings well in the hospital
4) should I take fenugreek and request domperidone immediately following birth?
At this point if I have to deal with engorgement I will gladly take it as it means I can actually feed my child.

Sorry for a long post just scared and have tones of questions

I have had supply issues with both my babies. I haven't had it confirmed but it's suspected I have a lack of glandular tissue and just physically cannot produce enough milk.
I felt a lot of guilt with my first and I was upset when I had to start combi feeding this time. But I've reminded myself that everyone is different and I am doing what is best.
Breastfeeding is going better this time though because I was more prepared, more informed and had more support. If you can have a lc there to help right from the start that can make a huge difference.
I would hand express colostrum but wouldn't bother with pumping until your milk comes in. Getting time to pump when you have another child is hard!
I wouldn't start supplements immediately but that's just me.

Good luck and remember every choice you make is in the best interrogation your baby!

I would suggest that your low supply probably stemmed from baby's tongue tie and poor milk transfer, rather than some thing wrong with your boobs.

From what I've read, TT is often familial, so do get new baby checked at birth, and by an LC if you're not convinced (mws aren't TT specialists).

If all is going well I wouldn't pump for the first few weeks until your supply has settled. It's all very well being willing to be engorged, but it leaves baby unable to latch properly and you will find yourself back in the poor transfer low supply cycle once more xx
