Questions about subsequent pregnancies?

Hi there! :waves:

I've not been on this section for a while. My 1st born was born at 36 weeks so a little bit of a preemie..... well enough to have to be in scbu for the 1st 10 days  But he's doing fine now at 3.5yrs :)

I am currently pregnant with our 2nd and I'm a little bit worried about a couple of things so I wondered whether your girls have had any experience.

We're not sure why Tom was early, I guess he was just cooked! He was 6lb 8oz when he was born so I wonder whether he just got to the optimum size for my body to take?..... This might sound completely pointless but I'm a bit worried about this 2nd one going to full term and ending up being huge! As 6lb 8oz is pretty big for a baby born 4 weeks early? Has anyone had a bigger preemie and then gone on to have an even bigger full term?

Also, I'm also worried that because Tom was early for unknown reasons what is the likelyhood that the next one will be? Have all of your babies been preemies or just one out of fluke/no idea/certain individual to that pregnancy complication?

Sorry for the questions and the hyjack, I just hope that I can get some experienced insight. Thanks :flower:

Hi, my 2nd was born at 35+5 and was 6lb 7oz! Like you I am convinced it was because I could delivery a huge baby lol I'm a size 6 normally! My dd was born at 35+3 weighing 4lb 8oz so Daniels size was a shock. But I then delivered my third at exactly 39 wks weighing a small 7lb 1oz so it doesn't necessarily mean a bigger baby next time. Good luck xx

Thanks Baby Aich! It's nice to hear :) It sounds so trivial but it's quite scary the thought of pushing out a baby a good few lbs bigger than the last!

I have no experience with having a baby after my preemie but I did have one before ... my first son was 8lbs 2.9oz at 40 weeks 2 days but he had single umbilical artery which is known to cause small birth weight ... I didnt think much of it until I had my second son at 35 weeks 6 days and he weighed 7lbs 15.7oz with no complications during pregnancy! I guess ill have to wait for our next LO to see bow far I make it and how big they are lol

Crikey adriansmama! My sister's little boy was born at 36weeks and weighed 7lb 8oz so it makes me wonder whether we just can't take bigger babies! It will be interesting (or painful) to find out!
