Some of the questions I asked the doulas I interviewed:
(1) Do you do birth photography?
(2) Have you ever been in a situation where you had to stand up for a client's desires while the medical staff was pushing an intervention she did not want?
(3) What is your role if a c-section becomes necessary?
(4) What happens if you are not available when I go into labor? Who would be my back-up?
(5) What are some of the methods that you use to help your clients cope with pain in labor?
(6) How long have you been a doula?
(7) What made you want to become a doula?
(8) Would you be willing to come to a prenatal check-up with me and meet my doctor ahead of time?
(9) Do you offer postpartum doula services, in case I become interested in contracting you for those?
(10) Do you feel comfortable incorporating religious elements into your labor support? (This may not be important to everyone, but it's important to me.)
Good luck with your doula hunt.
