Quick Question - Disposable nappies..

Just wondering how many nappies would be needed for a new born?

Just come across Huggies newborns with the wetness indicators for $88 for 288 nappies..

Is this a good deal?
What does everyone else think of these nappies?
AND how long do you thing 288 would last?

That amount would have lasted me almost a month when Thomas was a newborn, I think. I did change him a lot though because he seemed to poo constantly! I used about 10 per every 24 hours.

Newborn huggies nappies aren't gender specific here, though I am not sure about elsewhere.

I had the wetness indicator ones and didn't like them, the fastening tabs were large and sharp edged, and dug into my LO's legs. I think, but I am not sure, that they have since changed the tabs.

I wouldnt stock on newborn nappies. Your LO might be big & might outgrow them quickly or the brand might not fit him/her properly.

Hey! I haven't used Huggies, but I've heard from many people that they leak terribly.

I use Pampers, and a newborn pack of diapers has 56 diapers for approximately $10. This would be about $50 for 280 diapers... which is a better deal than the Huggies (and this is just normal pricing).

The "guideline" is that a newborn needs between 8 - 10 clean diapers per day. When my LO was that young, we just changed his diaper approximately every 2 - 3 hours (before every feed). And then about every 4 - 5 hours at night. A pack (56) lasted us about 2 weeks.

As far as i know, the diapers aren't gender specific.

Although I would recommend avoiding stocking up TOO much on diapers. I know lots of people who bought hundreds and hundreds of diapers and their LO's grew out of the newborn size and they couldn't use them anymore. We had our LO in the 'newborn' diapers for about 2 weeks, then moved up to size 1 for about 6 weeks, and he's been in size 2 from about 8 weeks - now (17 weeks). Just a suggestion

So my recommendation would be to start with:
-- a 2 week supply of newborn diapers
-- 2 packs of size 1 diapers

You can always get more or have someone pick more up for you. Just my advice! Good luck!

NZ and Aus should be the same product i think...

I imagine they would be the same nappy we have here. I googled and the pictures on the packaging show a different tab to what I remember the ones I had so I think they updated them.

I never had any issues with leaking and they worked very well in that regard. I had a 3.3kg 52cm baby so a normal average size. Newborn nappies in NZ go to 5kg so I bet they do there too. He hit 5kg at about 7 weeks old and they still fit fine then for another week.

I HATE Huggies nappies, i couldnt believe such a well known brand could be so rubbish!

They leak and the tabs are velcro and dont feel very secure at all. My LO would wet through them really easily needing a full nappy and clothes change every few hours!

I LOVE Pampers nappies they are really secure and my LO hasnt wet through them once!!

Huggies were rubbish for my LO, they kept leaking! So I'd imagine you're better waiting until you know which brand suit your baby before bulk buying. X

Depends how big your baby is when theyre born, my lo was 8lb6 and out of newborn within 2 weeks, he has about 6 changes a day x

Newborn must be a smaller size overseas? I can't imagine a baby gaining weight that fast! They go up to 5kg/11lbs and can often fit for a bit longer depending on the size of the baby.

I agree though best not to stock up, I found another brand that I liked better and had bought way too many boxes of huggies so had to sell them.

I'm starting to think there's a big difference between huggies that we get and huggies from the UK. Just been checking out different reviews of them... The UK seems to hate them, and they say they leak... But Aussies say they don't, and rate them highly. Very confusing!

Yeah wipes are a good thing to bulk buy, i bought 2 boxes of dymples wipes a box has 12 packets in it, and so far lasted me almost 4 months and ive got 4 packets left still.

I agree with this also, Ive seen on here many complaints from other countries about leaky huggies, but i havent had any problems at all with them, i havent had many problems with any brand ive tried, but i prefer huggies over them all, especially the Newborn ones with the wetness line on it.

Buggies were fine with my lo , I user about 200 newborn size 1 nappies til I had to go up to the next size ..
