Hi,

Ive more or less packed my hospital bag and babys bag and as i plan on formula feeding il be taking bottles and milk to the hospital. Ive bought a few cartons of the ready made formula. I was just wondering could i sterilise the bottles now, put the teats on and bottle lid on and put them in my bag. Would they stay sterile? My dd was born early at 36 weeks so would like to be prepared. x

i think they only stay sterile for a maximum of 24 hours- i would check with your hospital to see if they have sterile disposable bottles available or the facility to sterilise.

Ok, thanks for your reply.

Has anyone else took there own bottles and milk to the hospital? Could u sterilise them there? x

The hospital I was in had a little room with a microwave and kettle to do sterilising and preparing milk with. Probably would be best to phone them up and ask?

you would be much better buying one of those starter packs with the disposable bottles. faffing about sterilising is the last thing you need with a day old baby. they are available in the supermarkets. the cartons will be handy for your first days at home. but check with your hospital, mine gives ff mums free ready made bottles.

Could you buy something like these

Thanks for your replies. Think i will give the hospital a ring and the idea of the ready made bottles with teats looks like a good idea. x

our hospital had a room for preparing milk with a sterilizer to put bottles and teats in and they lasted for 24hours so you shouldnt need to take anything with you, they will have sterilizer tablets there

Thanks. Im going to give the hospital a ring to see what i will need and what they supply. x
