rare blood type ?

my midwife told me today that i have a rare blood type and that the baby will have to have a blood test through the umbylacal cord when its born to see if its the same blood as me, does anyone know what this means ? xxx

Are you Rh Negative? If so, when baby is born, they check their blood type from the umbilical cord to see if their blood is Rh Neg. or Rh Pos. If baby has Rh Pos. blood, you would need an Anti-D injection.

I'm the same blood type. I get to get the wonderful rhogam shot in 4 weeks =/ ... not looking forward to that.

I'm not to worried only because my cousin is the same as us and she had it with her first so her 2nd and 3rd babies were fine. She was given the injection at 28 weeks with every pregnancy. I think I'm just worried about getting the shot lol. I can be a sissy sometimes when it comes to needles!!

im not too bad with needles so hopefully il be ok, but the whole thing is a bit confusing think i need my midwife to explain proply nxt time i see her xxxx

I found out today that I am Rh negative too, they told me that they assumed the father was positive (because most people are-and he is because we happen to know his blood type) and that I would receive two shots throughout the course of the pregnancy. They said the shots were to prevent antibodies from building in my system in response to the baby being positive and me being a negative blood type. They also told me that it really has no affect on this baby, but would affect future pregnancies if I did not receive the shots (the antibodies would be in my system and would attack any future pregnancies).

oh right its becoming a bit clearer now, i was a bit confused on what it was all about before lol and my midwife doesnt explain things proply , doesnt sound like anything to worry about then as long as we have these shots xxxx

Yep from what my doctor told me there is absolutely nothing to worry about as long as you have the shots. Glad I could be of help!
