I bought some chicken breasts on Saturday from lidl. Opened them today and they smell of eggs. Not rotten eggs, just a bit eggy. Not out of date until Friday (14th). I continued cooking them, and after a few minutes, the smell has completely gone (including from the chicken left in the pack for another day). Can we say that the smell was from whatever gas was used to package it? OH says it always smells like that but I'm not sure.. It looks fine and normal. Is it safe?

My partner has a really good sense of smell and he often talks about the smell that comes from chicken packaging. It is only there for a few seconds after opening the packaging so there must be something in it that helps keep it fresh!
