I am planning to make Lou a cake for his party, I have a '1' mould and was just wondering what you ladies would use to stick the icing to the cake?! Would Jam do the job?

whenever i make a cake, i use apricot glaze. im pretty sure normal jam would work the same though! but normally, i boil it on the hob, and then spread it over the sponge, and then stick the icing on

I always use buttercream. I once used jam when I was about 14 and it made the icing go sticky! I've improved since then LOL, I now do wedding cakes. Apricot glaze would work if the icing is reasonably thick i.e. a good few millimetres which I don't think the ready-rolled stuff is...

I used buttercream when i made my daughters first birthday cake

Cover it in buttercream then stick it in the fridge for a bit so it stiffens up. This should help the ready rolled stuff to grip better and stop it from sliding around :)
