Hiya, hope you's all had a nice christmas,

just a quick question:

does anyone else get a really bad back when they lay down?

i get it really bad, its where my kidney is on my right hand side, it gets so bad i don't want to move, my bf just thinks i'm over reacting. but it feels as if there is something wedged between my nerves so i don't want to move as it hurts that much, it sometimes even makes me cry.

I have handed a water sample in and get the results back in a few days to rule out a water infection, anyone else know what this could be?
my sister in law said it could be sciatica? but its only when i lay down, is it probably just bump laying on a nerve? i've had it since about 8 weeks and i'm now 24 so as you may understand i am a bit fed up of it now :-(

(sorry maybe just needed to rant over it as the bf thinks i'm just a wuss)

Im struggling with back pain as well at the moment hun, but its not just when I lie down. You definately did the right thing, sending off water sample to check for UTI e.t.c It could be the way the uterus is lying..as our uterus is the size of a basketball now and its pressing down on everything sometimes when I get up from lying down my back aches really low down, sorry I couldnt be of more help. As for your OH thinking your a wuss, tell him to try being 24 weeks pregnant before he starts judging you on your pain..:hugs: xx

Yeh I have this too, especially when I lie down. In the past few weeks it has also transferred to my left hip - right inside if that makes sense. I'm not sure what it is either, but I've had it since about 8 weeks too. Might be nerve pain when it lies funny - the midwife mentioned in passing that my uterus might tilt slightly backwards, so maybe this is slightly why? Or could be muscles softening and not coping with extra pressure when lying down? It is really painful and annoying though!! x

Thanks ladies,

i really hope it goes away soon, for all of us, don't think i can be doing with having to roll out of bed and not move once laid down for much longer :-(

and as for the bf ... he is a man...and obvisiously they can handle everything can't they?!?! haha

Apparently, your hips widen during pregnancy and the ligements relax which means that your hips more flexible. It's because of this that we pregnant women get such severe back pain...feels really sharp, like a stabbing pain when you move. It gets especially bad during the night because you're in one position for a long time and then you suddenly change position which puts pressure on your hips. Try moving around with your knees together. Don't seperate them too much when you get in and out of bed and when you lie down on your side, keep your knees together. When walking, take smaller strides, the less strain you put on your hips when standing up, the less pain you should feel when you lie down. It could also be the weight on your hips when you lie down that is causing extra pain. These are just my theories. x

Wow old thread! Sorry about your pain Angel. Try repositioning? Or propping with pillows
