I had my baby on 7/28/13 so this is an oldie but I'm finally not on my phone to post! It's a long one!

The birth of Delilah Ruby Jane Anderson

It all started Saturday the 27th of July, 2013. I was asleep when the first contraction hit. And likely the next six. All I know is every time I had one I would wake up and feel like I needed to pee. It must have been the fifth or so time it happened that I noticed it. I decided to try to sleep since it seemed I was falling back asleep in between them. It was 3:43 when I checked the clock and decided to time them. I moved our daughter into bed with DH and took over the living room.

The next one came almost exactly 30 minutes from the last. Then every 15 minutes from there for a couple hours. I ended up falling asleep for an hour. When I woke I talked with my hubby and decided to head towards town since we live over 1.5 hours from the hospital. They were every 10-12 minutes apart at that time adnd I knew it could still be a very long haul. It was 9 am at this point.

We called the hospital and the Dr said not to come in so we headed to my BILs house since he was going to be the one watching Rosie. After a few hours at his house and some walks around the blocks when things seemed like they were slowing (this caused them to ramp up again) we decided to go get checked anyways. I was only 2cm, 80% effaced and -2 station. A change over the 1cm, 50% and -3 I was at the Wednesday before. I’ll take it! We were told to leave and come back when they were 5 mins apart for at least 2 hours so we decided to get a cheap motel room instead of driving back home.

As soon as we left the hospital contractions reached 5 mins apart consistently and stayed that way. After about 3 hours we decided to head back in thinking I would have made more progress. Checked and told I was a solid 3, almost 4 and still 80% and -2. Ok. It was 4:30 at this point and my Dr asked if I really wanted to stay or if I (and the tone of her voice changed a bit here) wanted to “GO HOME.” So back to the hotel we headed with instructions not to come back in until I was having contractions 3-4 minutes apart for a couple hours or my water breaks.

Once we got back to the hotel room the contractions were there. They were more painful and they were closer than ever before. I got down on all 4s to make it through them. Then they slowed. I was still timing them with an app on my phone and they went to 9 minutes apart and then 12 minutes apart. I rested. I decided I wanted another hot shower. I needed another hot shower. I was in there for almost 20 minutes with no contraction. Just calm and relax were all that was on my mind. Then I decided to get out. From that point my contractions were coming on strong and quick. I stuck it out on the toilet for 30 minutes waiting for my mom to arrive since I knew it was time to go. As soon as I had another contraction I knew I had limited time to get to the car.

I made it through the contractions on the way to the hospital cramped in the car and went inside to the room they had set aside for me. I had to pee. The nurse put the silly pee catcher bowl in the toilet and it made me mad since I had to poop and I was having a contraction so I couldn’t move the bowl. The nurse told me I didn’t have to poop but I knew I did! I had barely gone the last couple days and I NEEDED TO POOP! Well she got me back to the bed to get checked and informed me I was fully dialated!

The Dr arrived and checked me and informed me that my waters were bulging but she also thinks she felt a lip left on my cervix. She offered to break my water to help baby move down and I agreed. Afterwards sh confirmed there was a lip and I had to wait it out. 2 hours later it was gone and I needed to PUSH!! I spent over an hour trying to push on my back before getting on my knees, This was the position! I found my groove. My sweet girl was born about 2ish hours later with her fist on her face. She was perfect! I hardly tore (which apparently surprised the Dr and nurse for a first time vaginal delivery) and got 2-3 stitches because it was up and to theside.

Ruby was born at 12:07 on July 28, 2013. The moon was red because of the fires in the area. She weighed 7lb 11.3oz and was 19 ¾ in long. She was the VBAC I so desperately wanted. And she is AMAZING!! Recovery has been much easier this time and has made my concerns about coping with a toddler and newborn a thing of the past. I can do it and while it is hard at times I love my girls!!

Yay! I am so glad you finally were able to post and that you got the vbac you wished for!!!!! Wonderful story!

Thanks for sharing your story, and congratulations! I'm hoping for a vbac myself, glad it worked out for you!

Well done on achieving your VBAC! You did a brilliant job.

Just curious why you refer to your daughters by their middle names?

Thanks!! It was amazing!
Minties- my husband picked out first daughters name when he was 12ish? But he wanted to call her by her middle name and after we did it with the first it kinda stuck for the 2nd. I expect they may want to change it when they get older though. No specific reason for me. Not sure if my husband has a reason

How long apart from your c section was the vbac? I have a 3 1/2 yr old son (vaginal) and a 10month old son via c section. My husband and i are currently ttc #3 and i was thinking about a vbac. but my incision almost still hurts when i cough hard or sneeze (its almost like it's the deep inner incisions that hurt) i had a crappy recovery after both. so i was wondering what your opinion was on it...

Mine are 23 months apart. I had a crappy recovery after both as well. My c section incision got infected and it has caused long term core issues for me but I also broke my tailbone during my vbac. I can say they both took longer to recover than I thought but I enjoyed my vbac more. I was concerned with my incision but I know some obs will look at your scar during ultra sounds but mine said it was not necessary. I've heard a year between pregnancies is better for a vbac and there are lots of stories of them closer together. I knew I wanted it but still had to play by ear since my ob said I only had a 50/50 chance
