Hi everyone,

Haven't been on in so long! But I am so confused I just need to put the feelers out on this one!

So I had my daughter 2.5 years ago, im 20 weeks pregnant now with baby number two, first delivery was horrendous, forceps, vacuum, episiotomy, third degree tear, blood transfusion, my daughter was ill, Apgar reading was 4, she was in Neo Natal for 3 days! Thankfully she was fine and was a really good baby, but it took so long for me to recover both physically and mentally!

Anyway, I went to my 12 week appointment where I was told they couldn't find my original hospital file, I asked about having a section and the doctor I seen said it shouldn't be a problem, only problem is he was moving on so wouldn't be there for delivery! I called my doctors secretary who told me she has requested my file twice and still couldn't be found! They have in the meantime found it! Now am wondering did something happen that day that they are trying to hide....

I am adamant I want a section this time, I know its major surgery and a natural birth would be better but I just don't think I could go through it again, I also feel I couldn't properly bond with my daughter because I was so traumatized!

I am back next week for my 20 week appointment?

Has anyone had a similar experience??

No experience as this is my first but didn't want to read and run.

U have a right to request to see.ur notes so.if.U think they may be hiding something ask to see them. Also if ur adamant on a section I don't see why they would say no when u have precedent for it not just requesting because u think it will hurt etc (as some have done)

I hope.it all goes smoothly and just remember every labour is different

It does sound like they are trying to hide something. I had an awful labour with my first. They wouldn't even let me see my notes while i was in hospital, i requested them after i was discharged but they were "lost" for nearly 5 months until i threatened legal action, then they were found in minutes. When i got my notes they had been dr'd theyd said i was sitting up talking after a shower and absolutely fine when in reality i was barely conscious in intensive care. There were pages missing and things had been cut off and scribbled out. Keep requesting it and if they keep on fobbing you off demand a meeting with the head of maternity.

I agree, definitely keep requesting them.

I've the option to have a section this time too as I had an awful labour with forceps and an episiotomy. I'm in two minds what to do yet, whatever you want to do you have every right, you have a perfectly valid reason for wanting a section this time and to be honest I can't see it being a problem with the doctors etc.

Best of luck :)

Thanks everyone for your replies!

I have my appointment next Monday so i'll ask to see my file, hopefully i'll see my consultant then too!

Does anyone know, will they book a date for the section at this early stage or will I have to wait until nearer the time??

In my hospital earliest they book section is around 34 weeks

hey hun i was in an almost similar situation.

ds1 - i was induced at 6pm 3rd december (pessaries).. waters broken the next morning and things just went wrong from there. So many people coming in and out doing internals, cathaters placed and then removed 5 times, rude staff who shouted at me, failed epidural that made things worse. Eventually taken to theatre at around 7:45pm ... contractions stopped with the spinal.. they couldnt get them going again.. epesiotomy done, vaccum tried but failed .. delivered by foreceps where i was literally dragged half way down the bed. They rushed ds1 out of the room and he needed a little help to get breathing... took straight to SCBU. They had cut his head so i didnt get to see him! He was brought to me at 12:30am and the midwife who was on the ward i was on was horrendous.. she plonked baby on me after multiple requests.. I was still numb so couldnt move. she left him for 5 mins then took him off me.. 20 minutes later she did the same then took him off of me completely and took him out the room! I had to go searching for him at 8:30am after theyd taken all the drips off etc. They also didnt transfer my suitcase from labour ward to postnatal and had a go at me because i "didnt have my own sanitary pads". DS1 was badly jaundice and a very very slow feeder.. he was only taking 10ml per feeding for the first few days and his little head was black and blue.

It took me 2 years to physically recover from that and longer to emotionally recover. I was granted a c-section for DS2 as i was terrified of it happening again. There is no reason why you wont have it granted hun. Mine was booked at 28 weeks xx

Oh my god, that sounds terrible! Its so sad that these things are allowed to happen and when its your first baby, you take these things (to a certain point) cos you don't know any different!

Did they agree to a section because of the way you were treated or more because of the birth?

I just have a feeling I might have a fight on my hands getting a section! Were you sectioned the week before due date? How did you find the section compared to the "natural" birth?

Exactly hun. If it had been my second i would have let all hell loose. My whole care was horrendous though from start of pregnancy to when ds1 was 10 days old and we could finally stop going to the hospital for his daily blood tests. (bad jaundice due to the bruising on his head being reabsorbed by his body)

They agreed mainly because of my fear i think. And the fact I had just healed properly from it all didnt want my recovery to go backwards.

I had my section at 38+5. and I swear down it was fantastic :) I was a little embarrased because im a bigger woman so they couldnt tilt the table :haha: It was so calm and everyone was amazing. I got to see him straight away and had a natural section (google it :D its worth asking for it) and i got my skin to skin as soon as i was in recovery (could have had in theatre but i was being strangled by my boobs :haha: so there was no room for him). My recovery was fantastic and took much less time than my natural.

This time im going for a VBAC though. I feel empowered with my own body now and i really want to give it a go. :hugs:

hi i had my first 2an half years ago to jan 2012 an had traumatic labour didnt stop having another a year 11days later lol now 21+6 3rd. I had such easy first preg but i turned up unit in labour an set machines off due high bp, was ambulanced 2hrs later to larger hosp(waters broke in ambo an had sit for hr an half in wet jeans) and they did a scratch test on his head in womb an came abnor i had meconium waters, luckly i was fully dilates so they cut me and forceps son out. Daughter was harder bp meds at 32wks an twice weel hosp vis she was natural and suprise mw as thy didnt think far into labour as was lol.

*update*

So had my 20 week scan today, but didnt get to see the doctor! It was only the scan, im back in 7 weeks so the mw said i can discuss delivery then!

I had a quick read of my file! It was kinda rushed so was reading really quickly! I think it said that my daughter had to be resuscitated after birth, because i was so "traumatized" by what happened i honestly didn't realise that even happened! My husband said it was hard to see what was happening as there was so many doctors around her!

So on to my scan! My head is melted since! The mw said look away now if you dont want to know the sex of the baby! we dont want to find out but i have a feeling its a boy! Is it normal for them to say that? i cant remember with my first!!
