I've been giving my boy Aptamil Comfort for four ish days now due to (I think) colic, at first it seemed to be going good but since yesterday after every feed he gets incredibly uncomfortable and seems that he has terrible wind coz he's doing the usual pulling the legs up to his chest. It's getting worse now and is lasting longer after his feeds and takes him sometimes two hours to stop it.

He did stop the crying for hours in the evening as usually happens with colic after going onto the comfort milk so at first I thought great the milk is working but now I'm thinking he's even worse than on the normal milk coz he never did the pulling up the legs after every feed before.

My OH lost it earlier and said we are not using the milk anymore so I gave Dylan the normal milk not long after, while he was still bad from his last feed of comfort, and the normal milk seemed to settle him and he's been sleeping nice for about 3 hours since that.

I'll have to ring my health visitor tomorrow to see what she says but did anyone else have this problem on comfort milk? I'm beginning to think I might have to just deal with the colic on the normal milk until he gets over it

Any tips from anyone to help me deal with this? Thanks in advance :flower:

I had problems on every kind of formula (I'm in Canada so we don't have stuff like Aptamil here) and it wasn't until he was on soy that we saw any difference.

Thanks for that, I'll suggest that to the health visitor tomorrow when I speak to her, my OH and his mother and brother have to have soya milk so it could have easily passed onto him.

Comfort milk can make babies really windy in the bum department which could be what it upsetting him. Also as the milk is formulated to help with constipation so it can affect the consistency of poo's so they are more runny, this can be uncomfortable for some babies. It might be that comfort milk might not be the right formula for your little guy, talk to your HV and see what they say.

Joni was moved onto comfort formula from breastmilk due to constipation and reflux issues but she did also have awful colic for 3 months too. I have to say the formula helped with the constipation and reflux but had no effect of the colic in our case  Have you tried some of the anticolic drops etc like infacol or dentinox. There is also colief and gripe water.

In our case we just had to let the colic run its course as nothing seemed to help  Colic is an evil beast and can make you feel like you are going mental. My mum used to come round one evening a week and look after little one for a couple of hours while hubby and I went out for a break from the screaming. It was hard to leave LO in a state but she would be like it whether we were there or not and those couple of hours off allowed me to gather enough strength to cope with the crying the rest of the time. Is there any family or friends that could do the same for you?

Sending you big :hugs: and hoping you get your little man sorted soon :hugs:

Hi frufru, thanks for your helpful response! My HV said to stick with the comfort milk and see how it goes and she suggested colief so we're going to boots when OH gets home to get some, he's in my arms crying his poor eyes out now so I can't go up myself :(

We were using infacol for weeks but felt we were getting nowhere with it so I started on gripe water the same time as the comfort milk but HV said to stop that and try colief.

My OH's mother could probably watch him as you've mentioned but knowing my OH he won't want to bother with going out somewhere - he loves to sit in and watch tv all night, how boring! But a very good idea :)

Thanks for that, really helped :flower:
