hiya girlies, basically im worried about my son's eating again. Its kinda been erratic for the past month or so, he was taking a full 6oz every bottle until he had thrush then he was only taking an oz here n there, After he got over that he was beginning to drain his 6oz bottles every feed but for the past week or so he's back to only taking a little amount. Today so far he's had 3 bottles, offered 6oz n has taken 3oz, 4oz, and just there he's only taken 3oz again...he's really tired today. My mum always says to make him wake up to take the rest of the bottle but you literally cant make Ollie take more than he wants, he's been like that since we bottle fed him....he's still ok taking his feeds every 4 hrs, ive tried offering it after 3 incase he was hungry but he's not interested, He'll get a 6oz bottle offered at 6.30pm-ish n then goes down for the night, he gets a dream-feed at 11pm every night n takes about 5oz then, he's sleeping right through so is obv content and not starving n in the mornings he's full of smiles n stories so i know he's not starving but im worried he's not getting enough throughout the day. he's a big boy, when he was weighed 2 weeks ago he was 12lb7.5 so im worried he's gonna lose weight....he is showing signs of teething n i know that can put them off their food but im needing reassurance!!!! lol plz help! x

I wouldnt worry, they have massive growth spurts at the start then slow down. Freddie is 10 weeks and the last few weeks was draining a 6oz and would easily drain a 7oz too. Now he is back to 5 oz, with 3 less feeds a day. He will let you know when he is hungry!!!if he is happy and content, dont worry, no need to wake them either if they fall asleep at this age they have had enough. Its not like when they were newbies and we HAD to feed them up xx

thanks hun thats exactly what i thought about waking them up! lol I know its such a long way off but i know that you can start intorducing solids when they drain the full bottle (9oz) n just now im kinda thinking he'll never drain a bottle...lol sounds daft worrying about something so far off as that but im not as clued up as i wanna be about feeding! lol xx

i know they say 6 months til solids, but i doubt freddie will last that long!!he was 5lb 8 at birth is now 10.5 weeks and pushing 12lb. Hes a hungry baby, so ill be looking at baby rice etc at 16 weeks regardless of draining the 9oz or not, never did us any harm as kids. x

Hi there, I'm in exactly the same boat....Apart from the age of our LO's (mine's Oliver James), he's 15 weeks, he is also not taking as much in his feed, was doing about 7 oz, 5x's a day, now he's taking anywhere between 4 & 6oz only 4x's a day. I also think he's teething, lots of dribble & chewing on anything, even his teat when you're trying to feed him. He's also become a bit more difficult to feed, when he used to be very easy. But like your LO, he's happy & chatting away most of the time, has wet & dirty nappies, so hope al lis well & it's just a teeth thing??

yeah im thinking it is a teething thing, see there Ollie had his last feed last night at 11.30 pm woke up at 6.30am so you'd expect him to be starving but he only took 3 oz :S i tried there to give him half an ashton n parsons powder then see if he'd take more incase maybe feeding is irritating his gums but he's still refusing the bottle...ive got the HV today so im gonna ask her...like u say they're happy and have wet and dirty nappies...its just worrying that they might not be getting enough! lol x

Hey BrookieG, how did it go with the HV, did she have any advice?? My LO's the same when he wakes, can sleep for 9 hrs, but is not starving when he wakes!! I got him weighed today to make me feel better as he's also been sick more, but he's gained over 2lbs in 1 1/2 months, so think that's ok!! He's now over 15lbs & will be 16 wks on Thurs.

hey hun, i wasnt too impressed to be honest, she didnt have scales so couldnt wake him n was more interested in telling me off for using Bongela for teething lol

I am a bit worried though he only took 3oz at 6am, had his bottle there at 10am n has only taken 3 again... :S i really dunno what to do everytime ive asked they've told me to stop worrying and relax, part of me is saying to chill coz he's content and sleeping so is obv fine n he's thriving but i worry that really he's only getting half of what he should in a 24 hour period :S x

Why is she telling you off for using Bonjela?? I'm using it too, naughty me!! I would've thought HV's would have scales, just knowing they've put some weight on is reassuring!! I'm trying to be like you & chill a bit more as he's happy enough most of the time & feeds well some days & then like yours can have half of what he's supposed to have during the day, but it doesn't seem to bother him. He's also more difficult to feed at night & can really scream beforehand & takes a while to settle. Other people have also mentioned growth spurts can mess up their feeding, so maybe it's that too. I can't believe how difficult it all is guessing what's wrong!!

Jayne x

she says there's new research into it because of some ingredient or something?? i got dentinox to use instead n he seems to prefer the taste anyways but im not sure why no to the bongela! She says they rarely weigh them regularly now so he wont get weighed again until 15 weeks! i got myself in such a state yesterday, he had such a tummy upset but i automatically assume its something ive done or that its more than it really is, i seriously need to chill! lol He's only taken 3oz again this morning n is napping....im just gonna have to keep an eye on his weight i guess....was speaking to mum yesterday n she thinks its all down to his first set of injections but he's due them again in a week or so so im dreading what'll happen after them :S x

I really wouldnt worry, Freddie has started going from 11pm til 6am and will play when he wakes for an hour before he want feeding. Then eg this morning he had 4 oz, 2 weeks ago he would guzzle down 7oz sometimes!! he was also waking EVERY 2 hours for a 5oz feed so basically 2 weeks later he is having about 15oz a day less than he was. He is fine, i just put it down to the crazy growth spurt they have about 8 weeks and i reckon they are now settling into their groove! ;-)........Freddie is 10 weeks and 6 days!!!!
