I was just wondering how many of you have been offered reassurance scans by your GP?

After my second loss, in december (first one in november so two consecutively), i went to talk to my GP and she took some blood tests etc which all came back fine. Now, i am pregnant again, and although i feel very positive i am obviously worried and was wondering whether there is any chance she would refer me to the EPU for a scan at 6-7 weeks just to make sure the bean is doing ok? after the second loss i did get referred to the EPU by the duty doctor in A&E but i didnt go for the scan, simply because i knew there was no point (i was only 4w5d so it was just like getting my period).

I dont really want to ask, but at the same time it would be so reassuring to be able to see that little heart beating away. My appointment with my GP is not until next friday, so *thinks* 9 days time? yes, 9 days.

yeah my doc offered me one after my mc in dec. he said next time I was pregnant to let him know & he'll book me into a scan for 6 weeks. I found out yesterday & I have appointment in bout 30 mins. Ask - my doc was kind to offer but if he hadn't I would have asked. I'm sure they'll give you one.

I wasnt offered one after 1 loss. But i think you should ask your doctor. They may as you have had 2

My midwife booked me in for one the day after my 1st appointment with her as I spent the appt in tears and she could tell I was really anxious.

I have since been offered scans at 28 weeks and 32 weeks as well purely to reassure me, I was well pleased with that, can't believe they even askd me if I wanted them, like I'd say No!

alot of doctors vary, one doctor at my surgery wouldnt but another did and i had the scan today. midwives can refer for scans aswel for reasurance and other reasons. id ask :)
xxxx

My doc has offered me one at 7 weeks and 10 weeks as well as normal 12 week scan, but I haven't been to book in yet as I'm scared and wanna see what happens.

It really varies by EPU hun. Mine won't do reassurance as I really wanted a 10 week one, but some will after multiple losses. Way I figure it is just ask, if they say no it was worth a try. :hugs:

Best to just ask. I've been scanned 3 times already and I'm only 6 weeks. I think it just depends on whether you have a sympathetic doctor/midwife.

Good luck.

Hi hun mine wouldnt give me just a reassurance scan as they called it even after my MMC & MC last year i was fumin im like 9 weeks now and still am none the wiser as to whether bean is ok or not?? Im just hoping & praying really!!! i started off really positive and was determined 3rd time lucky n all that but as the weeks have ate away im soooooooooo negative :-(.
I've managed to get one next week at almost 10 weeks as i lied and said i didnt know my due date (ooooppppsss naughty me) little do they know ive been ttc for 3 years so i know my cycles like the back of my hand i know exactly when im due :-) it was the only way to get an earlier scan b4 the end of feb which i juust know i wouldnt have made it too no way id be an absolute wreck!!!!!!!

My advice would be to push for one hun tell them u wont rest untill you know & its not healthy i tried it but mine are stubborn as fook, i went to A&E because of some brown discharge spotting and they still didnt scan me????? they did an internal said "Yes cervix is closed" and sent me on my way i mean WTF!! I thought they'd have kept a closer eye on me in those early days but that wasnt the case god damn NHS.

Good luck babe hope everything turns out good this time :-)

I asked and my midwife gave me one marked as a dating scan/threatened miscarriage (though I was sure of LMP and O date and had no bleeding) to use at my discretion. I used it at 8 weeks as generally by that point there should be something to see. I could have used it at 6 weeks but thought that might be a bit dicey as sometimes, even when things are fine, there isn't a lot to see at that point.
Probably a bit different here as our scans are partially subsidized but we still have to pay a bit for them (everything else is free though).

thank you all so much for posting and sharing your stories. Its clear to me know that it really varies depending on your doctor or midwife. My doctor is very sweet and understanding so hopefully she will offer. If not, hopefully i will have the courage to ask :)

When I hit 12 weeks, and my morning sickness stopped so suddenly, I called the office and point blank told them I wanted a maternal reassurance scan! They did it, all was fine! So yeah....it's awesome!

I called my maternity section in the hospital up and explained to them that i am anxious they booked me in for a scan at 6 weeks x

it's worth a shot hun! mine were all very enthusiastic about scanning me constantly, lol, with no good reason if you ask me, i was just thrilled!!

eta, bet you cant figure out which parts of this post were sarcastic and which weren't

LOL emms :hugs:

Thank you all so much for posting! Well, i managed to get a cancellation and see my doctor today, and she immediately referred me to the maternity services and requested that i be referred for an early scan. bless her, i didnt even have to ask! So i assume that i will just have my booking in appointment earlier than the usual 8 weeks and they will sort out a scan date for me, much like they do at a normal booking in appt when they organise your 12 week scan. Phew!

so, all being well, ill be meeting Flump in a couple weeks!

yeah :) i really cant wait. i mean, i am crapping it but am excited too.
