Red wine to induce labour?

The baby's full term, you're not going to give it Fetal Alcohol syndrome with one glass of wine :) The placenta will filter it.

Entirely up to you, it's probably more to relax you than anything. It's not going to actually start anything, but being relaxed, well, that's good medicine :)

I think thats what a lot of people have said. I'm really stressed and uptight and can't stop crying and can't sleep etc. So I think it might do me some good

My sister in law had a glass of mulled wine and went into labour the same day! She hadn't touched a drop all pregnancy, and that one glass seemed to do the trick! I'll be trying it if my baby ever turns out of the breech position!

To be honest you'll go into labour when baby is ready to come, I highly doubt a glass of red wine will do it. Its not something I'd do either 1) I don't agree with drinking in pregnancy full stop (just my opinion) 2) I can't stand red wine.

a chilean friend said red wine is a well known old wives tale for bringing on labour in her country! i dont know if want to try this - I know on paper a glass would do minimal harm but like people said it ust sits uneasily and i know ill get heartburn!

Think I've decided to try it. 1 glass after 40 weeks won't do any harm. I'm the only woman I know that hasn't touched alcohol in pregnancy but I'm fed up now so I'm gonna have 1 glass.

I know logically baby will come when ready but I'm so stresses and upset I think that's probably more harmful than anythin else.

Wine? Spicy food? Sex?

Sounds like my kinda night!

Go for it...

Good luck, hope it brings on labour and if it doesn't you might have a chilled nights sleep instead of all the anxiety :hugs:

I'm gonna give it a go aswell,, gonna go the asda tonight and get a small bottle haha.. I'm sure one glass won't do any harm, I hope it works xx

Inspired by this thread, i am going to have a glass tonight. He is fully cooked, i am achey and tired so the plan is curry, bath, glass of red wine and bed.... Unfortunatly for DH sex is off the menu lol, too frumpy and logistically not managable lol. X x

I've been under consultant Care because I have so many tightenings from my irritable uterus. He advised me to try a glass of wine if they get bad - if they die off they would be Braxton hicks. If they get stronger go to hospital!
Have been having a glass now and then ever since - no labour yet but does ease off the frustrating false ones!

Fajitas, 1 small red wine, bath, sex, bed (with trashy Saturday night tv thrown in) this is gonna be a good night.

I plan on having a glass with my labor cake! after some eggplant parm for dinner! (eggplant is another inducing food, and basil & oregano go fab with it) mmm.. red wine & chocolateeeeee \\:D/ if it doesn't work - at least its delishhhh!!! :haha: heard that it relaxes you, so your uterus relaxes  going to try this week, best friend is flying in on tuesday -- hubby is going to think we've lost it trying every 'wives tale' to get labor started before I'm induced :haha:

I had one sip so far and don't think I'll manage much lol!!! Fajitas are lush

My hypo birthing book suggest a stiff drink and rest when labour starts.

The odd glass of wine will do no harm esp when baby is already baked.

I had an awful cold the other week and I thought if I still had it during labour I'd take a box of Lemsip in and just HAVE THEM because, what, I'm going to cause birth defects to a fully-term baby with a Lemsip? No. All the forbidden foods are driving me mad. Roll on Christmas drinks!

Bacardi Oakheart, please, Santa.

I studied addiction education and I can tell you that one glass of wine is not going to harm your baby. In order for a baby to be affected you need to be drinking a lot and on a regular basis. Red wine is actually good for the body, the types of drinks you need to be wary of are hard liquors like Vodka, whisky, Rye etc... Wine & beer are both relatively safe when used in moderation after 20 weeks. Let us know if it works, as I would love to try it as well :)

Don't know but it'd be interesting to go to hospital in labor, tipsy with alcohol on the breath and see what they say lol
