hi ladies..i am 28 weeks tomorrow and yesterday bubs had a fairly quiet day..i did feel some strong kicks but far fewer than what he would normally do..this morning iv been awake for an hour and he's only just starting to do a few small movements..would u be worried or is the fact that i still am getting SOME movement a sign that he's fine?
xx

From what I have read it is quite normal to feel less movement around this time as bubs has less room to move about than before. If you are worried then there is absolutely no harm at all in calling your midwife to talk to her to put your mind at ease.

Xx

Hmm Tough one tbh,i think if it was me i would try and "encourage" bubs to have a wriggle,ie drinking ice cold drink,BUT i would probably always err on the side of caution and call my midwife or materniy hosp for reassurance,it doesn thurt to ask if your worried hun
xx xx

i just went through this and my doctor told me that you need to feel at least 6 movements a day. They can be all at once or within a short time. If you are worried though contact your doctor or midwife :)

hey ladies.thanks so much for replying..i did drink icy water this morning and ate some food which usually provokes him but he finally woke up about an hour ago and has at least made some decent movements probably 3 since i made this post so im not really worried anymore.he still has reduced his movements a fair bit as he would normally be moving and rolling a lot but i think he may be running out of room like one of u said.thanks again.xo

Its not just how many times you feel baby move - its the pattern, if the pattern of movements change or reduce. I would always advise contacting your midwife. They may advise ice water etc.... but may also say come in for a check - or if xyz doesn't happen come in for a check.

Reduced movements can be nothing - but can be very serious and should never be taken lightly.

hmmm im a little worried again =( although i have still felt occasional small movements i havnt add any major wake periods and the movements seem weaker..i might give the hospital a ring and see what they say.xo

I have read that babies are like us, some days they are really active, other days kinda quiet and lazy. Somewhat like you or I would be. If you are really worried I would deffinately contact someone, to put your mind at ease. Good luck :)

If ever you feel like the baby's not moving enough, have something cold to drink (or if you have something specific that usually makes the baby move, have that), lay down on your side, and count the movements. If you don't get somewhere around 10 in an hour, try it again. If you don't get 10 again, then call your doctor or midwife. This seems to be the most common advice out there for reduced movements.
I've heard that babies run out of room and move less the further along you are, and I've also heard that that is total rubbish - so I would maybe talk to your doctor or midwife about it and see what they say. I live by the rule of "less movements = bad" regardless of how far along I am, just because I'm paranoid and not willing to take risks.
I've been in for monitoring twice...it kind of sucks, because I felt like an idiot both times since it turned out to be fine...but I'm glad I did it. Peace of mind is wonderful.
I'm sure everything is probably just fine with your baby...but if you're worried, you should definitely go get it checked out. :flower:

ETA: There's a sticky thread in third tri about reduced movements....if you haven't gone through it, you should. Warning, it's pretty scary, but it's valuable information.

Thanks for some really good advice..I been a bit worried myself as LO is normally breakdancing but she has been quiet for a couple of days now..been checking with the doppler and hear heartbeat but not really a lot of kicks and stuff. Im gonna do as you suggested..will they still see me if I ring the hospital since Im still 5 days shy of 24 weeks??

It is absolutely not true that babies movements should slow down the further you get. They do not run out of room to move and lack of movements can be a big problem.

It's not even really how many movements you get. It's the change in normal patterns so if you are worried things have slowed down then please get checked out even if you are still feeling kicks.

Please go and read the sticky in 3rd trimester - it explains more.

I'm not totally sure, but definitely call them. I would like to think they wouldn't turn you away! At just under 24 weeks the movement can still be kind of all over the place, but if your baby has had a pattern that they are suddenly breaking, it's worth at least calling to see what they say.
The doppler is definitely a good thing to have, and it's very good that you can find the heartbeat, but once you get to the 27, 28 week (ish) mark, rely only on the movements...even if you find a strong HB right away on the doppler, if baby isn't moving, still go in. :flower:

hey ladies thanks so much for ur advice and support!i rang my hospital and she said come right in and we'l pop u on a trace just to be sure!i went in and bubs was absoloutly fine..she wanted the trace on a little longer cos i didnt have as many movements as she needed and i had to drink a giant pot of freezing apple juice but she said he had a good heart beat.=) i was a bit hesitant to ring or go in cos i went through the public system(in australia) with my first lo and u would be stuck there for hours they are so rushed not always very nice and u feel more like ur just being ridiculous there..
im with a private dr/hospital this time and they are absoloutly FANTASTIC!she said she was glad i came in come in whenever i want if im worried i was seen straight away put in a nice room offered a big dinner half an hour after i got there which i politley turned down cos i was going to inlaws for dinner and was just treated so so nicely!made me feel great about the hospital and so much better that i can ring for anything and they are more than happy to help!so it actually turned out to be quite a positive experience cos i now feel really confident with the hospital im booked with.
thanks again
