I have just received a letter from our SF Nurse. My hormone profile shows a rise in my follicle stimulating hormone which would be consistent with a reduced ovarian reserve. OH bloods also elevated suggesting a degree of testicular resistance!!! Now have another appointment on 1st August. I have to have repeat bloods done on next period to see if they have returned to normal or if they are continuing to rise. ANYONE out there with any advice/experience? Thanks

My FSH is slightly elevated as well.
No advice for you though. I've been ttc for 12 cycles and I'm going to see my RE on Aug 1st as well!

What was your level?

Didn't want to read & run. I don't have any experience with that issue, but I want to wish you luck! :hugs:

Hi sorry also didn't want to read and run . I think these are our next set of tests. Sorry I can't help with answers . Good luck , keep us informed

Well, now that's really ridiculous. I'd call them and ask for the level. There really is a big difference between 10-15 and 15-20, etc.

I will try calling again on Monday. Thanks for replies

I just got my level today and they told me 9.3 and said I was normal but I have no idea what that means or what normal is. I've tried to google but it comes back with all kinds of different levels.

So your saying that this does not indicate how many eggs you have or the quality? What is it telling you? So confused!!

Hi there, yes that's exactly what it means... the cd3 is always the first step docs go to when dealing with infertility but it's not really a good test in my opinion bcuz your FSH number changes every month while the AMH number stays the same... see the link below for what your levels should be.... good luck... :hugs:

https://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hormonelevels.html#female

and also see below the comparison between cd3 (FSH) and AMH tests:

AMH Reference ranges

Interpretation:

AMH levels do not change significantly throughout the menstrual cycle and decrease with age. Healthy women, below 38 years old, with normal follicular
status at day 3 of the menstrual cycle, have AMH levels of 2.0 – 6.8 ng/ml (14.28 – 48.55 pmol/L). High levels are found in patients with PCOD.

Ovarian Fertility Potential pmol/L ng/mL

Optimal Fertility 28.6 - 48.5 4.0 - 6.8
Satisfactory Fertility 15.7 - 28.6 2.2 - 4.0
Low Fertility 2.2 - 15.7 0.3 - 2.2
Very Low / undetectable 0.0 - 2.2 0.0 - 0.3
High Level > 48.5 >6.8

AMH levels do not vary with the menstrual cycle and can be measured independently of the day of the menstrual cycle.

AMH can be used for:

1. Evaluating Fertility Potential and ovarian response in IVF – Serum AMH levels correlate with the number of early antral follicles. This makes is useful for prediciting your ovarian response in an IVF cycle. Women with low AMH levels are more likely to be poor ovarian responders.

2. Measuring Ovarian Aging – Diminished ovarian reserve, is signaled by reduced baseline serum AMH concentrations. Women with poor ovarian reserve who have entered the oopause have low levels of AMH. However, this is a new test, and is still not easily available.

AMH versus FSH

The old standard for ovarian reserve testing was the Day 3 FSH level.

However, the FSH level is not as reliable as the AMH level for 3 reasons.

1. The FSH level varies according to the cycle dates

2. It depends upon the estradiol level ( a high estradiol level will artificially suppress a high abnormal FSH level into the normal range)

3. It varies from cycle to cycle, so is not always reliable or dependable

An AMH level is a much better marker for ovarian reserve. It is much more stable than the FSH level and does not vary from cycle to cycle. Even better, it can be measured on any day of the cycle ! This is why most infertility specialists today use AMH to check ovarian reserve, rather than the old FSH level.

One confusing thing about AMH is that there are at least 2 scales out there and innumerable clinic definitions of what is "normal" - it depends on which assay they use and which study! One scale is ng/ml and one is pmol/l. The pmol/l scale runs from 0 to about 48; the ng/ml runs from about 0-10. On the ng/ml scale , less than 2 ng/ml is considered to be low.

I have read that FSH can be elevated due to stress, so its possible if you take the test again you'll get a different result.

Also I have read about women getting pregnant with high FSH despite the fact that doctors told them they would not be able to. So I wouldn't worry too much if you are ovulating regularly.

I think it's likely to get pregnant with a high FSH, if you are a younger woman.
ie, if your FSH is 15 and you're 25, you have a much better chance to conceive than a 40 year old woman with the same FSH.

Thanks for the posting about AMH levels, Ababyforhubby.
I just had mine drawn and I'm waiting on pins and needles to get the results.
My first FSH was 10.6 and my second was 9.0. Obviously the second test was much more preferable. I'm not expecting a fabulous result with the AMH anyway. So, if it's bad, I can always live in denial with my decent 9.0 FSH level!!

I have read that too readyformore.... a younger women with a higher FSH will have a better chance at becoming pregnant than let's say someone in their 40s, I would probably even say someone in their mid 30s... (me)!

Oh man, that's a bummer Ababyforhubby.
Hopefully he has a "plan" for you too.

Keep us posted! And let us know when you find out what your numbers are.

I'm imagining mine will be low simply because I only have 1 ovary and I read that 1 ovary will give you a lower AMH. That makes sense, considering that I have half of the eggs of other women my age. *rolls eyes*

Hugs to you about the yucky news.

thanks for the hugs :hugs: yea it is a bummer but im not going to get down about it anymore.... I have my daughter, husband, and health to look forward to..... can't wait for my result appt next week....
:hugs: to you too for the one ovary :hugs: did you get pregnant all 3 times with the one ovary? :hugs:

I'll definitely keep you posted :hugs:

I had it removed after my second child. So, I only had 1 ovary while I conceived my DD 3 years ago. I know it works!!! Or, at least it did. I feel like it's overworked, lol.

You seem to have a great attitude. Good for you!

haha you're funny.... thanks, I can say the same about you.... I just rather not dwell on things that I can't change.... and focus on things I can. I hope this positive attitude gives me a :baby: in the end. :winkwink:

It is possible to reduce FSH and improve egg quality:

Hi i have high FSH 86 a lot higher than yours , however i would ask for amh test you may need to pay for it as my level 1 year ago was 9 and was told i was ok, now look at my level im 36. my amh is under 4 considering ivf.
Good luck and remember you know your body.. x
