Hi ladies

We have been referred for ICSI, due to my PCOS and OH low SA results. We should qualify for 2 nhs cycles. We completed the application for funding and i see no reason why this would be rejected other than that my oh fathered a child years ago but the pregnancy never continued, could this go against me? Im sooo worried!!!!!!. the application was sent 3 weeks ago, and i still have not heard a thing. I no it sounds dramatic but its all i can think about!! Im driving myself mad, and my OH is getting frustrated with me!!

Are there any other ladies in the same boat or been in the same boat? How long did you wait, what should i be expecting?

Hi, Im nikki, been ttc for over 6 yes and don't get funding because I have a gorgeous son, even though my husband was not the father, we have saved hard and will hopefully be doing ivf in the new year. Just to answer your question you should get funding no problem because there are no children living in the house with you so STOP WORRYING you will get the funding and hopefully a lovely BFP. Good luck and relax. X

Oh and another thing, the NHS takes forever, and I mean forever to do anything. I had a scan to check for cysts, it was the last stage before I am being referred to Dundee for IVF, I know the scan was fine and the sonographer said my consultant would have the results in a few days, 6 weeks later still no appointment. And to make it worse once I have been referred I know it will be 3 months before Dundee contact me. So frustrating but what can you do. X so try not to worry, 3 weeks is nothing. X

I too have been referred for ICSI on the NHS due to PCOS & poor SA results! Got my referral appt on 11th November. I'm currently on Clomid & DH is taking 5 vitamins a day so I'm hoping ICSI won't be necessary, but I'm sure it will! Going to give Clomid 6 cycles before starting actual ICSI. I should get 3 cycles on the NHS & I'd rather Iike 3 or 4 kids so I'm hoping for some twins :) xxx

Hi ladies, thank you for your response.

We have been trying for 3 years, and im just at the end of my tether!! You have certainly put my mind at rest.

I too am hoping for twins as i never want to have to go through this again!!!

I have spoken with the primary care trust who have confirmed they cannot see any reason why funding would not be agreed so just gotta keep waiting!

MrsB09 where will you be having your ISCI?

Wishingalways, the problems you have had with the NHS is terrible and i do hope your get your BFP soon, ive not had too many problems really with the NHS more just be being impatient if im brutally honest! Im a worrier by nature,

I was referred for IVF in May and our wait is a year. I only get one go and our PCT has a SET policy the chances of me having twins are slim. I'm hoping to start about March/April time xxx

hi ladies weve been referred 4 ivf to,it wont go against u,same as my oh he got his ex pregnant & she didnt go ahead wiv it,so u will b fine hun, we get 3 chances on nhs, good luck ladies.x

MrsB09 where will you be having your ISCI?

We have the choice between Hammersmith & Cambridge & I'll probably pick Hammersmith but I haven't done much research yet. Still hoping clomid will work
But realistically the SA was so bad that that is highly unlikely! X

It most definitely WOULD go against you if either of you had a child - whether they lived in the same house as you or not ... But having been pregnant, caused a pregnancy that didn't continue, won't affect things at all. If you think about it, if a pregnancy mattered, then no woman who had ever miscarried would be eligable for funding - which would screen out a huge number.

Sadly for me, I'm not eligable as I'm too old for funding - so we've had to do a lot of saving to get our money together.

Good luck chikkie xxx

its just so unfair that some people get 3 cycles and others get 0 cycles funded, it really is an absouloute disgrace and should be stopped, i can't belive its allowed to happen in this day and age, we all pay NI towards the NHS so why is funding poste code dependant, it makes me sick, something needs to be done to end this!

Thanks Ladies,

I totally agree everyone should be treated the same!!

Totally agree hun!!! It frustrates the crap out of me that some people get 3 goes and i get 1. It also baffles me how they determine the wait list. I know a lady on here who gets 3 goes and her wait is 6 month yet i only get one and mine is a year. What the feck is that about?!!

We dont have loads of spare cash to be spendin on IVF so there is sooo much pressure for this one go to work xxx

I agree, the postcode lottery is a joke! Got my FS appointment tomorrow, the last i heard in my area is that you get 2x ivf attempts and the waiting list is 27 months long.....

Hi ladies,

I cannot agree more about how awful the postcode lottery is. In April we were told that we should be able to qualify for one round of NHS funding because I have endo and my partner has a sperm count of a lot less than one million and all non-motile.

We have just been told that our PCT has now limited funding to people who cannot get pregnant due to two blocked tubes or a zero sperm count. Because there is a 'chance' that we will fall pregnant we are now not eligible. How is it possible that having a lot less than a million sperm with none of them swimming give us a chance of falling pregnant?

I am so sad.

That sucks hun :hugs: It's so not fair and something really needs to be done about it. Bet they don't change the goalposts for things like Gastric bands grrrrr xxx

Toch thats terrible!! Its totally unfair how different everyone is treated!!

I agree, totally feeling the pressure for this to work as no spare cash, although i thought the NHS had to work to commencing treatment within 18 weeks, thats what they told us! Its all i can think about we submitted our application but still waiting for a response!! argg

HI there. I realise it's so different everywhere with NHS but I thought I'd let you know how it works where I live.
I miscarried last year and nor me or DH have any kids. I have been told that I would be able to get NHS funded IVF (one cycle) 3 years after my miscarriage. Unfortunately by that time I will be over 35 years of age and will not qualify due to that.

If I were you I would really discuss your options with a fertility specialist at your local hospital. I was told the minimum TTC period doesnt start all over again if your naturally conceived pregnancy doesnt result in a live birth. Get your GP to refer you on basis of trouble TTC and talk to RE, don't talk to your GP they're not as informed about PCT funding policy. Good luck.

One more thing, if the RE says no, you can always ask them to apply for "individual funding request". thats a seperate form you can get from your PCT. It's for people like you who are not a straightforward case. I spoke to my PCT when i thought my RE would say no and they told me about this. the lady at the PCT even encouraged me to do it on the basis that it doesn't hurt to ask, and she told me if RE still says no to advise PCT encouraged it and worst they can say is no. Essentially she advised me to demand it if RE still said no.
