Jasmine used to be perfectly fine with tummy time... Up until she had the first bad reflux flareup and now she screams whenever you try to put her on her tummy...

Just wondering if anyone else had this problem? I've tried using the underarm pillows too...

She is good and strong so im not that worried about it... I know it is very beneficial though..

No, sorry hun. Even with reflux and no perscription Niamh was happy. Not sure what to suggest, sorry :hugs:

Kaitlin has reflux and she isnt very happy on her tummy, she is almost 6 months and not rolling over yet! I think due to the fact she hates to be on her tummy, she doesnt like to be lay flat on her back for too long either. She likes to sit and play with her toys, but as soon as she is in a sitting position ( and she still leans forward slightly) she is sick, you can gurarentee it everytime, it drives me mad! is Jasmine the same when sitting ? xx

Morgan has absolutely HATED being on her tummy!!! We'd be lucky if she lasted two minutes before she'd scream the place down...

....until this last few days! She started on some stronger meds last week, and all of a sudden she's far more happier being on her front!! She's rolling for herself now, which she had not done before, and the last few mornings, I've woken up to her having rolled onto her tummy in her cot and chatting away to her cuddly rabbit!!!!!!

She's always much preferred sitting up or standing up - even from a very young age!!

So I'd say yes, the reflux has really held her back from tummy time!

what is she having now ?? Were on gaviscon but to be honest I dont think it does anything anymore! she's still really sick, HV takes no notice says its normal, yet shes 6 months and on solids it should be calming down now really! xx

Brooke has never really likes tummy time tbh lol, possibly something to do with the reflux who knows? lol

Caitlyn had baaaaaaaad reflux, but she loved tummy time

Ya ourr doctor wouldnt prescribe anything either! But she has an appointment thurs, so I may enquire again... She is ok on her back, but I dont think it helps any... and definately loves sitting, she is constantly tryng to pull herself into a sitting position.

Morgan has "silent reflux" and has been on Gaviscon since she was 6 weeks old. We started weaning at about 23 weeks (on GP & HV advice) to help the reflux, but after a few weeks, we realised it was actually making things a hell of a lot worse.

GP advised stopping solids for a while, and the symptoms did calm down a bit, but I really wasn't keen on leaving her off solids for too long as her weight gain slowed right down. After some nagging, I got the GP to refer to see a Consultant Paediatrician, and we went last Wednesday. He prescribed Domperidone (an anti-sickness medication) and Ranitidine (an antacid) and to get her straight back into weaning again.

So she's been on the meds for 5 days, and the improvement has been really good so far. We'll be going back to see the Consultant in about 6 weeks to review her progress.

If you're concerned, I would push your GP for a referral.
:hugs:

Iv heard silent reflux mentioned a few times, whats the difference betwen that and normal reflux ? Im gonna see how she goes over the next week I might have to go back to the docs, im not pushy enough though! xxxx

Ranitidine is actually better then gaviscon as it actually repairs damage and neutralizes the acid.... Gavison just basically takes the burn away.

basically silent reflux is when the baby doesnt spit the vomit out, they swallow it. And reg reflux is the baby vomitting it out.

What is 'silent' reflux?

'Silent' Reflux is a type of reflux which occurs with no visible regurgitation. The acid travels up into the oesophagus, particularly when the baby is being laid down flat. A persistent cough and sore throat may also contribute towards diagnosis, as the acid may reflux up from the stomach into the oesophagus and the airways.

Silent reflux is one of the most difficult conditions to diagnose and sometimes the baby's consistent painful reaction to being laid flat and inability to settle at sleep times, is the first indication that something is occurring. If you think you may have cause to consider silent reflux, think about putting baby in an elevated sleeping position. A baby wedge or bed blocks should be a good start. You may notice a difference immediately. if your baby has other symptoms of reflux too - little cough, hoarse crying, bad breathe, arching during a feed, then it may be worth visiting your local GP.

Basically it's acid reflux without the vomiting.... very VERY painful for the LO.

I forgot to add...

Morgan's main symptoms are gulping, choking on herself (so bad to the point where I have to tip her over and hit her back and can take 30 secs or more before she can breathe again and several minutes until she stops wheezing) several times a day, coughing, arching herself back so hard that her head and feet turn in opposite directions, screaming in pain, poor sleeping, etc...

poor little things, I can sympathise with them I get reflux when I pg and its auful...got to be the worst thing about pregnancy for me...and their so little and cant tell us, poor things :(
