god i am at my wits end with my 11 week old baby.....

was on sma but sicking up on every bottle and winding her she wouldthrow herself back and arms and legs flying about.... doc put her on gaviscon which helped with the sick but made her really bad constipated so i took it off her after 3 days

went onto sma comfort which has helped which was last week but these last few day she has screamed mid feed and wouldnt take her bottle again till 5-10mins after she calmed down ... i rang doc and he said to try the gaviscon again... so.....

from yesterday started the gaviscon and she is starting with loads of pumping and her poo has started to get more and more claggy nearly hard and its still dark green!!.. only managed to get 90ml down her this feed she was so placid...

do i changed milk to cow and gate comfort or stick with what shes on i dont know what to do and health visitor know ive had probs with her from the start and they say infacol cooled boiled water for constipation which im reluctant to give her every day.... and to top it all off had her weighed and cos she is only gaining slowly health visitor said to get another feed in... she has only just started going every 4hrs gggrrrr i could of slapped her

Sounds like she's finding it hard to digest the milk... Cow and gate comfort will probably be the same as the SMA one so I wouldn't change it to that...
Gaviscon gave our LO constipation too. I don't like it. You could try cow and gate carobel? It's a thickener like gaviscon but better. Or see your gp and see if they'll try prescription milk in case she's got an intolerance?

oh god hun i could have wrote yr post!!!

my 4 wk old twins are exactly the same. theyre on gaviscon and gripe water and weve just started the dr brown bottles. well these last 2 days weve noticed certain bottle times end in agony and lots of stress. we alternate the gripe water and gaviscon. the girls seemed unable to suck through the teats on both the tommee tippee teats and browns at certain feeds and become constipated. we thought we were gettin somewhere to find we werent.

wellit appears gaviscon thickens the milk and after hindsight weve realised that the feeds they couldnt drink were the gaviscon ones, it was cloggin the teats. AND its that thats makin them bunged up.

i too have considered the comfort milk but am reluctant to. so from tonight we are going to just try thr dr browns alone and take it from there.

im worn out tryin to find solutions especially as they have colic and reflux with a bit of constipation thrown in.

oh wow i had no idea gaviscon caused constipatioin as our LO had it already and we were treating it properly with a rhubarb extract from the doc but since adding gaviscon her poos have gone hard and lumpy and causing her mega distress. Hmmm perhaps I will stop the gaviscon??

Yeah gaviscon commonly causes constipation. Carobel didn't seem to for our LO

thanks ladies :D i think if constipation is more of an issue than very mild reflux i would just use constipation medicine as if its only mild reflux you can adjust positions when she feeds or use a thickened formula other than that I am not sure what to suggest since there is baby omerprazole which does not cause constipation but is used for severe reflux and is still a chemical pill so you have to weigh up the options I guess

is there anything natural for infant reflux???
