Ds is 9 months old and has had reflux since the early days. He was on ranitidine but it didn't help so came off that. He's never in any pain with it but it's becoming unbearable for me now. Weaning hasn't helped. It's just food sick now and we both constantly stink of sick. It's really getting me down.

He's on domperidone and gaviscon now but it's got worse since starting these meds last week. Is this normal for it to get worse before it gets better?

He's been on c & g anti reflux formula which hasn't made much difference. So I'm swapping back to the first milk now he's on gaviscon but I give the gaviscon in 15 ml of water after meals rather than in his milk because it says to put it in 4 oz of milk but he takes two 6 oz bottles and an 8 oz at bedtime so I couldn't work out how to give it in his milk without stopping halfway through to add it in which would be a faff or making up two bottles which again is a faff. What's the best way to give it?

Sorry for garbled message hoping it makes sense and someone can help as gp just gave me a prescription and said give it a month and go back if no good but a week in and it's worse and I'm at the end of my tether with it.

As an example he got up at 6.30 this morning. And by 8 am he'd been sick six times. I can't cope with this.

Any experiences of reflux and what helped?

He shouldn't be sicker on Domperidone as is supposed to take effect within the first couple of days. The fact that he's worse now suggests a possible traction to the drug (it's a strong one that can cross the blood brain barrier in babies). I'd mention his response to the paediatrician who prescribed it asap.

In terms of formula, have intolerances been ruled out?

It's great that he's not in pain and add long as his weight gain is acceptable it's just an upsetting and messy business that should resolve eventually butI know that's little comfort right now

Domperidone can make a baby more sick, we were living proof of that. Most nurses and doctors did not believe this until they attempted adminstering it themselves in A&E one night. However it can take up to 2 weeks for domperidone to have a full effect so it may be that it hasnt kicked in yet.

It can take a few tries of swapping and pairing medications until you find what suits your LO.

I wouldnt bother waiting a month though. 2 weeks max.

Seems like all paeds have a different story when it comes to meds as ours said a few days!

No advice sorry. Just wanted to let you know I've just gone through this. lo is 9 months and his chucking up has improved quite abit in the last week or 2. We went down the meds route with ds1 who had painful silent reflux. Managed to avoid it this time as lo is in no pain and gaining weight. It's just really messy and like you say pretty disgusting once they are on solids. It's gotten me really down a few times feeling like we both stink of sick all the time and having to warn people everytime someone holds him. He's teething today so it's been a sicky day but it's getting better with age and down to the fact that now he's only on 3 7oz bottles a day.
