Formula bottles.
Putting them straight into the fridge after being made with boiling water, no no?
How long do they keep for?

Like you say, no no!! If you put them straight in the fridge while they're still hot it'll bugger up your fridge!

What I do is make them up, and fill the sink with cold water and stand them in there for about 10 mins, by which time they've cooled down enough to put in the fridge.

I make up 5 bottles as that's how many Morgan has in a day, so the last one is in there for just under 24 hours, and she's been absolutely fine with that.

Hope that helps hun.

We put the kettle in cool water for a few minutes before making the bottles up. Than pop them into the fridge straight after making them.

before making his bottles i boil ther kettle an hour b4 hes due a feed. so if u boiul the kettle n let it cool down u can then make bottle n put it in fridge for 24 hours or like someone else said cool it in water first :)

I thought the water had to be boiling to kill the bacteria because the formula isn't sterrile?

Oh and like Tabs I do 24 hours worth at a time too, never had any problems :)

I thought the water was sterile to kill the bacteria in the water, not in the powder? We used to use boiling hot water when making Hannah's bottles, can't tell you how many times I burned myself. Now we cool it down (to about room temp, sometimes warmer)....haven't had any issues

I think they say the water should be no cooler than 70C so as to sterlise the formula.

I also think i remember reading somewhere that means leaving 1 litre of water for no more than 1 hour, 1/2 litre for no more than 1/2 hour etc...

I always leave the kettle to cool a little bit as I'm quite a clumsy sod and just know I'll end up with 3rd degree burns if I use boling water!!!
:dohh:

the bactieria only becomes a problem wen u mix the water to the powder n leave it for over an hour when not in the fridge.

the boiled cooled water is fine :)

I boiled the kettle half hour ago, if I go make them up now and pop them straight in the fridge we'll be alright yeah?

yeah I think so, wouldn't leave it any longer though

stick em in cold water just to make sure they r cool enuf :)

i used to do my bottles like this then my MW gave me into trouble :( can i start doing again you think ? lol

I stopped but I figure her belly can handle more now anyway.

Yeah thats absolutely fine, I leave my kettle to cool for half an hour and then make up all my bottles for the next day (5 bottles for 24 hrs),

 The funny thing is I was working on my bottles at the same time  Just popped them into the fridge

That reminds me I have to do some soon lol. I make up 24 hours worth too, put them in a bowl of cold water and then in the fridge

As long as the water is the kettle as been boilded u can use it hot or cold

You need boiling water to properly dissolve/sterilise the powder, i read that off the department of health's website I think.. if you search around you might find it.

We always cooled our bottles in a sink of cold water (takes 5-10 mins). I think if you leave the milk to cool too slowly (fridge or room temp), bacteria develops. You need to cool it asap

Hope that helps

I'm breastfeeding but have given the odd bottle at night. My mw said that you have to make the bottles and use them immediately (after cooling of course)! She said you can't pre-make them, not sure why though... After all that bother it is just as quick for me to breastfeed her!

I think the mw's lie so that you breastfeed longer!
