ok ladies,

firstly thanks for reading.

here is our story.

DS was born 1st November, started off great, BF then topping up with formula as my supply was low due to blood loss. Supply continued to be poor and my hormones were everywhere so stopped BF.

about a week later all the drama began - he would vomit entire feeds up, was a very unhappy boy & then started to have bloody lumps in his stool. so we switched to nutramigen for cows milk protien intolerance.

He calmed down initially but then got way more fussy, fighting bottles, crying during feeds etc - turns out its the bad reflux which can be worsened on nutramigen as its a thinner feed - so now on ranitidine & carobel thickener.

Carobel gave him diarrheoa, so we are using way less than what is recommended now.

His stools are like clay and its very hard work for him, and he seems to be in pain alot of the time.

Its heartbreaking to see him like this and I feel if I can give him breastmilk it surely is going to be easier on his tummy.

Spoke with dietician today who advised ill have to go dairy free, and they will give me advice, but also asked the BF advisor to contact me (still waiting).

so all i know at this point is to get my pump out and try as much as I can - i need to find it first :dohh:

but im looking at hiring one, is it worth it? and any other tips would be brilliant!

thank you

I think a hospital grade double pump would be your best option. Are there any support groups in your area? Some of those hire pumps. Or the feeding co-ordinator at the hospital?

Good luck! I hope it works out for you:hugs:

the BF advisor is yet to call me back... i got a script for domperidone today so just need to find my pump now!

I agree a hospital grade one is worth it. A medela symphony if u can manage it. It's their newest, and is made to mimic actual bf'ing. I used one in the hospital, and if I could buy one, I would!!

thanks - i hired an ardo elite and it arrived yesterday - so far there has been about one drop, and i tried LO with some skin to skin - he actually latched on for a wee moment which is very positive!

ill keep u all updated if your interested ?

Poor little one! I hope it goes well for you re establishing. Keep us posted

Definitely keep us updated! I really hope it goes well.

well im already noticing an increase in what im getting - yesterday i would pump 20 mins to get a drop on each side, but today its coming out of a few places on each nipple and coming quicker - small progress but exciting non the less!

thanks for your support ladies!

That's brilliant, keep it up cos whatever you are doing must be starting to work! Good luck x

I got 2mls at my last pumping - enough to put into a syringe and feed to DS and he seemed to enjoy it!

I'm only pumping after each feeding, and not through the night at this point, if my supply seems pretty rubbish then I'll start doing during the night sessions, hopefully i wont need to cos baby sleeps through and it would be dire to get up at 3am if i dont need to!

Yay!! I'm glad it seems to be working. Keep it up!!

today i expressed 1.5oz and gave him it in a bottle!!! woohoo!!!
