replacement for Smoked Salmon?

Ive been craving Brussels smooth pate! Used to eat it quite a lot now I cant have it Ive been dying to have some! I work on the checkouts and I give evils to the customers who buy it lol goddamn you

great now i want brussels

salmon is actually very good for you, like shrimp.... so my MW says, I've been eating it, and I haven't gotten diseased.

I've been craving a bagel and lox like crazy for the past three months but have steered clear because of the health risks :( I think I'm just going to buy some lox and microwave it. Better than nothing, right?

I actually tried this...it just cooks and dries out the salmon and isn't the same at all :( I think the risk for listeria is higher in the US than other countries. I will still ask my doctor about it next time I'm there...in the meantime, suffer I must :(

To the woman who said they haven't gotten sick yet--listeria often doesn't affect the mother but DOES affect the baby. From what I've obsessively read, it can be transferred through the placenta or through the birth canal and can be fatal to the baby. It also has a high death rate in infants, something like 25-50%! So, it's rare, but worth the risk? I don't know...

Again I think I'll need approval from the OB/Gyn to feel ok about it. But man...I REALLY want it and not a day goes by where I don't crave it!

Nooo! And I was excited too. I wish there were some other way to make it safe...

So I just realized I've been putting cold deli meats on my bagels and that has just as much risk as the salmon does for listeria...

Starting to think I'm going to say f-it to the warnings that aren't about high mercury levels!

My reg doc and OB both said deli meat is fine is the states. Anything smoked is already cooked and perfectly safe to eat!

I eat smoked salmon about 3-4 times a week and I'm in the US. I've honestly not give up much of anything and I definitely don't heat up my smoked salmon or deli meats I eat regularly as well. And my baby girl is an active little bugger. I have tried to cut back on seared tuna. But the way I've figured is things I've always eaten have never gotten me sick before so I trust my judgement and everything in moderation. I also have sushi (raw sashimi as well). I've been in the seafood industry for a long time and I trust my instinct and nose

I say enjoy! By the way my dr tried to tell me to cut back on fruits and my est friend who is also an ob/gyn and who is pg said I'm fine :)

Whether or not it's cooked depends on if the meat was hot smoked or cold smoked. Lox is cold smoked salmon so it's actually not cooked, which is why most health authorities in the U.S. advise pregnant women not to eat it

OMG I'm going out to buy the biggest pack of smoked salmon I can find today I'm so excited I honestly thought you couldn't eat it! AlsO you just saved Christmas I love smoked salmon at Christmas for breakfast or as a starter!! X

I read that Victoria Beckham craved smoked salmon during one of her pregnancies and ate tons of it. I've read that it's safe to eat anyhoo.
