Know it says you're meant to have retinol vitamin A or something. I don't want to drink it to lose weight, just something to fill me up when I'm really struggling to eat which is quite often.

My cousins trying to tell me juice plus shakes are safe during pregnancy... But they have vitamin A too? Though it doesn't say retinol in the ingredients.

No deffo not, they are just a big con. See doc for complan what i tried when i couldnt eat.

As for juice shakes make your own smoothies.

If you are having trouble getting enough calories, there's nothing wrong with drinking a shake. I drink Jay Robb protein shakes daily myself. They are "clean" and contain no artificial ingredients at all. (The one above has sucralose in it) It's basically just protein. If you want a meal replacement shake, just look for a good brand that's not got any harmful ingredients in it. I know many pregnant women that drink meal replacement shakes during pregnancy, especially those with multiples because it helps so much to get those additional calories needed to get babies weight up. Personally, I don't like the Juice Plus shakes because they are made with soy protein and just don't think soy protein is good for you to have on a daily basis. You are supposed to keep soy products to a max of 7 a week....it can affect your hormones, namely Estrogen. I don't do meal replacement shakes with carbs, protein, fiber....I just do the straight protein shake, but I know that Young Living and Isagenix have really good ones if that is what you're looking for. You could also check out your local health food store. The most important thing is to get enough calories in your day so baby grows at a healthy pace. Shakes are great way to do that.

I think it is to do with the type of vitamin A. From animals isvthe bad type from plants is ok. But please dont take my word for it. As for meal replacement shakes pregnant or not they are not a good idea. I have been having smoothies with frozen fruit, milk yoghurt/quark a bit of protein powder and eithet natural peanut butter or a teaspoon of nutella if im feeling naughty.

Maybe its the difference in countries.....shakes are perfectly fine where I live, approved by my Dr. Maybe you should ask your Dr if they are ok.

I drink ensure- Every doc said it's fine- Im still losing or maintaining weight though- Im 22.5 weeks. Im fat to begin with but the baby (not that they really checked- botched my 20 week scan and never repeated it..) is growing.

The ensure has vit A but being Im hardly eating actual food- I don't think Im getting too much vit A-

If you're having trouble keeping food down your doctor needs to know then they can prescribe you meal replacement shakes with all the right nutrients. I have to follow a liquid diet for health reasons and need the prescription ones.

xXx

It's not that I'm having trouble keeping it down it's that I'm having trouble actually eating in the first place :|. Aversions are so intense to mostly everything. So especially during the day when OH is at work and can't run around getting me that one specific thing I can eat, I just tend to go without.

I make protein shakes all the time - I don't use the same types I had before when engaging in weight loss programs but I make awesome delicious ones daily. I found a protein powder made from peas or a part of them....all natural, nothing added to it to gain/lose, etc. essentially it's a vegan powder, with unsweetened original almond milk, banana, spinach, frozen cherries and a Greek yogurt thrown in plus two scoops of protein powder. It's healthy and natural and filled with nutrients that are incredibly good for anyone's health. You can always have shakes....just use natural ingredients and if you can add leafy greens to it (plus that banana or other naturally sweet fruits) you cannot go wrong. I have to do it some days since I can't bring myself to eat solids. We have these great "take out" protein bars in my city (Chicago) and it's the same concept of shakes/foods made with a protein powder and super foods. (They're called Protein Bar if you're interested in googling it.) nothing wrong with essentially pureeing/blending super foods and fruits and good fats to help meet caloric needs. No worries and enjoy this time...:winkwink:
