I went to the hospital for my hsg and blood results and the good news that everything is fine and I am ovulating.

However DH's results were not good at all. At our last appointment we were told that everything seemed fine but he needed to do another SA as there wasn't enough to do a count.
Today we get told that the results are exactly the same as last time which is not good. When I explained to him that the gynea we saw last time said they were fine, he said that they were not fine and couldn't be counted because there were not any sperm to count. :hissy:

I'm so upset that we were given false hope last time and were totally unprepared for this news.
So the gynea has signed us off as there is no more that they can do and has instead refered us to the fertility clinic in Cardiff.
We feel as though we are in limbo and don't know what DH's results mean for us and what options there are for us now. And who knows how long we are going to have to wait as we are being treated on the NHS.

I just feel so numb and can't stop crying.

Gah that's tough.... Stop crying though, you have to so that you get answers and then get moving in the right direction! What did they say exactly? No sperm at all? Some but too little? Bad motility? Bad morphology? You need these details.... Even an unqualified GP can give an provisional diagnosis depending on the exact results!

Whichever it is though, it doesn't really matter, these days they really perform miracles with IVF and ICSI.

We're here for you if you need anything at all.

:hugs:

Thats terrible, the original doc should of explained a whole lot better so you wernt given a misleading impression.

aw babe thats awful, im so sorry.

my friend was in the exact same position as you... given false hope for 5 years... then referred for ivf. by this time they had been trying for ten years.

they had ivf 3 years ago and now have 2 and a half year old triplets. i know this prospect seems so far away....

she is the one that gives me so much hope, her kids are like my own and im never away from them.

when u do have kids babe, you will treaure them more than you can ever believe after such a difficult journey

Thanks MissAma,
I've stopped crying for now, just trying to let it all sink in.
The last doc said that the morphology and motility seemed fine, but there wasn't enough to count and so requested another sample.
The doc this time said that there were no sperm in either sample.
Looking on he bright side though we are being referred to the fertility clinic now rather than seeing the gynae. Just have to wait to hear from them now.

Good girl! Well done on picking yourself up this fast but trust me, been there, done that, it's the only way forward.

If there was just very little then that is oligospermia and they can tell what the motility and morphology was like but if there was NO sperm at all in the ejaculate that's azoospermia (that's what we have, a sperm count of zero) and it can be of two sorts. Obstructive (basically when there is something that's stopping spermatozoa to come out) and Non-Obstructive (NOA- this can be confirmed with hormonal tests and the causes are a number of things from genetic malformations to cancer or undescendent tests, etc)

If it's oligospermia chances are you guys can have just normal IVF with ICSI, if it's azoospermia then there will be a Surgical Sperm Removal (SSR) attempted, either by a biopsy or by a needle aspiration procedure and if sperm is found then continue to ICSI. There are also hormonal treatments available (if not very efficient) and an advanced new method of SSR called mTESE that seems to succeed where normal procedures fail.

If worse comes to worse and there is no sperm found in any manner or if you do not wish to continue searching for it, there is always the sperm donor route to be explored.

(Sorry it's incomplete and this is certainly a layman's explanation but I do have to work today LOL - I can send you a few links with information when you're ready!)

 I'm sorry that you went in totally unprepared for this, that is just shocking but I'm glad they've now referred you on for fertility treatment. Hope you don't have to wait too long for the appointment :hugs:

 Hope you get some answers soon on what will be next for you
