Hi, I've posted about this before on the TTC section but thought as there are some new ladies in the LTTC that hopefully someone out there might have some thoughts about this.

Basically I had a Lap done just over 5 years ago due to very painful AF and pain during some bding positions. I was told afterwards that I have a Retroverted Uterus and that would be the cause of my problems. Looking back on this I feel that maybe I was fobbed off a little - I was a little younger and did not have the confidence I do now to ask more questions or even think of questions I should have asked. No one explained if this would cause problems TTC and at the time I did not think to ask as I was not TTC. I always have difficulties when I have a smear test and recently I had a cervical swab as requested by the FS and again the nurse found it difficult to locate my cervix, telling me my cervix is tilted right over to one side.

I'm not sure if anyone would know but I'm wondering when they did my Lap if there was anything that could cause problems when TTC if this would have been picked up or if problems could have developed since?

Its really playing on my mind and I have done lots of research myself which suggests that a Retroverted Uterus should not cause problems when TTC – but as DH sperm results were very good and I've been using the CBFM for 11 cycles now if actually it could be the reason it is taking a while TTC.

I’m seeing the FS in December so I’m going to ask then – just wondered if anyone else has this or any thoughts on it?

Thanks x

I had to have 3 laps before I was correctly diagnosed with a septate uterus and on the 3rd lap, septum was removed. So yes, problems can get missed, I know of quite a few women that have been misdiagnosed.

As far as problems happening after laps, yep, that can happen too, such as endometriosis.

Def have a good chat to the FS and see if he'd recommend another lap.

Good luck x

Hi there,
I have a retroverted uterus as well, but my Dr told me it is quite commen and it shouldn't affect TTC. I also had painful BD, and AF but found out after lap it was endo. I hope you find your answers soon and get your BFP! Good luck :)

I was told I had a retroverted uterus also I went recently to the docs cause I always had trouble with my af, when I was younger it would hurt soooo bad and be so heavy I would have to miss school and work. Finally I went to see a doc a couple years later and he gave me some answers but when you're a young girl they kinda dismiss you. I recently went again hoping to get some answers and I have to say the previous doctor tried to help me more, lol

They say that a retroverted uterus shouldn't affect ttc but honestly I believe it does I think it depends on how bad it is, sometimes a retroverted uterus is the cause of something else and it can be missed. Hopefully it's nothing else but it's always best to ask questions. Hope it happens for you soon. :dust:

Sorry I missed this thread before hun.
I have a retroverted uterus. I found out during a HSG. The radiographer really panicked me at the time, because she said I had a upside down uterus and she didn't know much about it. My gyne reasured me that it was fine though and has no effect on ttc. I hope that's true.

I've also got one -- my doc told me that it was nothing to worry about. xx

Thanks guys - yeah I have been told too that this should not cause any problems, but as DH SA was very good and I am ovulating all I can think about at the moment is the reason I'm not getting pregnant is because of it. The last swab I had the nurse explained that my cervix was round to the left hand side. I've got my 1st FS appointment on 11th December and I'm going to push for answers about this then. I was intersted to find out how many LLTTCer's have this as I feel that maybe it could be making getting pregnant more difficult for us? x
