I am due to return to work in June and as per my works policy I confirmed in writing 10 weeks before my planned return and requested to return four days a week instead of five.

As of today I still haven't heard from them regarding my request and I'm due back in three weeks! I've emailed my manager again today to see if they have made a decision as needed to arrange childcare but no response as yet.

My question is have any of you ladies who put in a change of hours request had to wait until you were pretty much returning before you knew?

A girl at work who returns the same day as me knew her new hours six weeks ago so I don't know if I am being unreasonable chasing or I should be patient lol x

Hi I figured out my change in hours about a month before I went back x

If you've applied to change your hours under your legal right to Flexible Working then your manager should have held a meeting with you within 12 days of receipt of your letter.
Google the right to Flexible Working, as there are a number of criteria you need to meet in order to apply under the right.

My work turned me down for PT hours. I applied 10 weeks before I was due back to work and they have me the decision 4 weeks before I was due to go back so it took them 6 weeks to process my request. I appealed and they let me know the final decision (still said no) just 6 days before I was due back in work. They then said they would try to move me to another department that could accommodate the hours I'd asked for. I'm still waiting 10 weeks later :(

As tattoo said, by law they have to process your request within a certain timeframe. Also they have to have a good business reason for turning you down.

I made a request, had to wait about 3ish weeks, and then got confirmation and papers signed 2.5 months in advance. I would definitely hate for it to be so last minute! They also at least owe it to you to say they received your e-mail and are still considering it! It seems fishy that they didn't even reply to your follow-up email. Would you be able to phone them and actually confirm that they actually received the email and ask for an actual time frame for hearing back from them?

That timescale no longer applies. The law changed last year so all they have to do is respond within 3 months and have considered it reasonably. There are still the business reasons for refusing but the strict timescales for meetings etc have gone.

Op, I don't think there's any harm in gently chasing xx

Mine was all sorted back in March. My work were very keen for me to reduce my hours so more than happy to except my request! You need to sort childcare. It's not unreasonable to know by now!

My manager phoned me today and apologised for the delay and to expect a letter from them shortly confirming my return to work. Why is everything so cryptic :haha:
