Back in February I became pregnant with my first. At 9 weeks we were officially diagnosed with a blighted ovum. This eventually led to a loooong drawn out miscarriage process which included hemorrhaging and bleeding for 2 1/2 months until finally I had a D&C in June.

It was when my doctor was doing blood work for my D&C that we discovered that my blood type was negative. The problem is my husband's in positive. She gave me the shot at the time of D&C so that my blood wouldn't produce antibodies to positive blood type however I read that has to be given within 72 hours of a miscarriage to be effective....obviously I was way past that point. My doctor isn't convinced the pregnancy progressed long enough to create fetal blood that could mix with my blood, but I'm still worried.

If my body started created antibodies to the positive blood type, will I have a hard time conceiving? How will this affect the health of my baby and me during the pregnancy.

I also just discovered I have Rh negative (o negative)and just had the shot myself on 10/3 when I went to ER for bleeding. My pregnancy ended up being ectopic and to try to save my tube I took the methotrexate shot. I understand about long drawn out processes. I bled heavily for this whole month and still my HCG is at 130 as of 10/26.

I'm honestly not sure about the time frame, but I wouldn't worry. At this point, you've taken the shot and done everything you can so it won't do you any good. One thing I've learned so far on this TTC journey, is you can't freak out about things that haven't even happened yet. Losses make it hard to remember that, but in the end, it is this group of ladies who will look at our babies as absolute MIRACLES!

Ltweety I think you are absolutely right. Our babies seem to be even greater miracles after our losses. I stress because I was way past the point that the shot would have been effective if my baby's blood crossed with mine during the miscarriage as there is only a 72 hour window >.< I will know November 17th though whether or not my blood has started producing antibodies though

So there is a test to see if it's already happened? I had a miscarriage with my first pregnancy at about 5 1/2 weeks. I did not receive the shot because I didn't have to get any treatment. Do you think it's possible it mixed at that time? I'm new to this information so I haven't really done much research yet.

Just found this article...pretty informative...and scary :( https://www.acog.org/Patients/FAQs/The-Rh-Factor-How-It-Can-Affect-Your-Pregnancy

There is a test that they can do to see, however I was told that in very early miscarriages sometimes the baby doesn't develop long enough to form fetal blood that can cross with the mothers. My doctor had explained this to be right before my surgery and right after I had received some medication before they put me over so I was a little out of it at the time >.>
I will be seeing my doctor on the 17th and I hope to get a lot of these questions cleared up.
Thank you so much for that article btw! at least I know its still possible to have a baby.
